PUNXSUTAWNEY — As it happens over time, some things begin to wear down and need to be refurbished. The same can be said about some of the "Phantastic Phils!" throughout Punxsy.
Recently, "Fireman Phil," on display in front of the Central Fire Department at the Mahoning East Civic Center, was taken into the shop for restoration by one of its original co-creators, Nance Finley.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Library Days continue from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this week, with Ice Cream Day today at Fezell's County Market in the Groundhog Plaza.
The event is a week-long fund-raiser for the Punxsutawney Memorial Library.
"With all the budget cuts of other libraries, we like to do everything we can to keep our library open," library board Vice-President Barbara Burkett said.
BIG RUN — Early Saturday morning, firefighters fought a fire at a Caroline Street, Big Run, residence for the second time in a week.
This time, the fire – again at the James Stellabuto Sr. residence – destroyed what was left of the interior, and the house sustained heavy damage.
Firefighters from the Big Run Area Volunteer Fire Company were called to the scene around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. It was fully involved when firefighters arrived on-scene.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Author/illustrator Julie Branken's magical "Bubble" is back in a fifth book, and this time, even more members of Branken's family are along for the ride.
"Bubble's World Book 5: Frogs and Fairies," which Branken wrote under her pen-name, Jules, again features three of the stars from her previous books: Grandsons Vincent (age nine) and Ben (age seven) Gigliotti and their English cousin, Rosanna.
But this time, the children are joined by Vincent and Ben's five-year-oldsister, Isabella.
