BROOKVILLE — At least 125 people died in Joplin, Mo., when a mile-long tornado struck last Sunday, leaving in its path complete devastation.
But amid tragedy, there is hope.
In conjunction with Clarion County Career Center and Charlie Schrecengost Trucking (CST), the Jefferson County Firemen’s Association will gather goods to send to tornado victims.
PUNXSUTAWNEY
• A Memorial Day parade and service, sponsored by American Legion Post 62 and VFW Post 2076, will be conducted Monday.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. with services following at Barclay Square bandstand at 11 a.m.
The veterans’ memorial wreath will be placed at Circle Hill Cemetery immediately following the service. The public’s participation and attendance will be greatly appreciated.

• VFW Post 9044 and Ladies’ Auxiliary, Big Run, will hold a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday at the Fairview Cemetery, Church Street.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Area School District will hold commencement exercises for the Class of 2011 at 7 p.m. Tuesday at a location — Jack LaMarca Memorial Field or the PAHS auditorium, in the event of inclement weather — to be determined.
The guest speaker will be Senior Master Sergeant Charles Buterbaugh, a 1991 PAHS graduate.
