Errors, strikeouts lead to Punxsy's first loss

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Four errors, 10 strikeouts and 10 men left on base dropped the Punxsy baseball team to its first loss of the season Friday, 6-1, at Hollidaysburg.

The Chucks (4-1) fell behind 6-0 after four innings before they scored their only run in the fifth. While the Golden Tigers (5-1) were building their lead with two runs in the first and third innings and one run in the second and fourth innings, Punxsy was leaving multiple runners on base nearly every inning.

Of the 10 runners Punxsy stranded, five occurred during the first two innings.

REACT celebrates 35th anniversary

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It all began with CB radios, and now celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Punxsutawney Radio Emergency Associated Communications Team (REACT) has become one of the premiere volunteer safety organizations in Punxsutawney and around the world.

It has been 35 years since Ken Haynes and Bill Murray first established what was known back then as Punxsutawney Radio Emergency Services (PRES), which would later become REACT.

Charlie Hoeh, REACT member, said the club originally began in 1976 by monitoring Citizens Band (CB) Radio Channel 9 for motorist emergencies.

Police, DA: Suspects trafficked heroin along Interstate 80

CLARION — More than a year of investigations culminated Friday when Clarion County District Attorney Mark Aaron announced the arrest of 11 alleged heroin dealers.

The investigation involved anonymous informants, Clarion Borough Police, the Clarion Heroin Task Force, the Youngstown (Ohio) Police and the Mahoning Valley (Ohio) Crime Task Force.

Six of the alleged dealers are Clarion-area natives: Krystal Clark, Rimersburg; Nicholas Beichner, Rimersburg; Marla Forbes, Leeper; Sara Kirkpatrick, Leeper; Barry Beichner, Kossuth; and Thomas Novak, Marienville.
