PUNXSUTAWNEY â Will reducing the number of legislators in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives actually help to streamline the legislative process?
Thatâs what state House Speaker Sam Smith, of Punxsutawney, believes, as he has introduced a bill to begin the lengthy process required to reduce the size of the 203-member chamber by about 25 percent.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â For almost 50 years, Harry Barnett has faithfully attended the Variety Show, and this year was not one to miss.
Walking into the debut of the Class of 2011âs show Thursday night, Barnett reminisced about his own classâ Variety Show in 1962.
âOur 1962 Variety Show had the theme, âGoing On a Sentimental Journey,â with âSentimental Journeyâ being the class song,â he said.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Students in Lisa Kellerâs third-grade class at Longview Elementary School demonstrated Wednesday their successful use of copyright, reading and technology, all wrapped up in one project.
âIâve watched technology at the high school, and have seen many good programs, but Mrs. Kellerâs class just blew me away,â Longview Principal Travis Monroe said.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Rather than choosing a single physician for Doctorsâ Day this year, Punxsutawney Area Hospital chose to celebrate the diversity of all doctors employed in Punxsy.
Many would expect the doctors employed at Punxsutawney Area Hospital to be from western Pennsylvania.
However, as Dan Blough, hospital CEO, noted, using a map arrayed with push pins, the doctors are from various parts of the world, showing much diversity at the local hospital.
Red push-pins on the map depicted where each doctor was born, while blue pins displayed the medical schools they attended.
