BROOKVILLE â In a continuance hearing Wednesday, the prosecution and the defense in the case of the Commonwealth vs. Steven Patrick Rebert were on opposite sides on which set of laws should be used regarding a June 2010 traffic stop during which he was arrested by law enforcement in his native state of New York.
The issue, pertaining to items taken from Rebertâs pockets during the stop and his statements to police: Should the court look at those issues in accordance to Pennsylvania or New York state laws?
Each year, five women are chosen by the Punxsutawney Career Womenâs Club for Career Womenâs Week. The criteria used for choosing these women are based not only on their professional efforts, but also on the contributions they have made to community and family.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â During their fall banquet Wednesday at the Eagles Club, county Democrats said theyâre starting from the ground up in order to raise their candidates to higher levels of government.
âWe need to start supporting our local candidates,â such as those running for council, mayor, school board or township board of supervisors, said county party Chairman Dennis Peck. âThis is where our part has to start.
âWe need to fill those seats with Democrats,â he said. âThatâs our goal.â

PERRY TOWNSHIP â A Hamilton man was flown to a hospital following a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday on St. Jacobs Church Road, Perry Township.
According to Punxsy-based Pennsylvania State Police, a 1995 Ford 9,000 coal truck driven by Richard E. Smith, 66, Brockway, was traveling south on St. Jacobs Church Road while a 1996 Ford Aspire, driven by Del S. Heitzenrater, 29, Hamilton, was traveling north.
Police said both vehicles entered a curve in the road at the same time, when Heitzenraterâs vehicle traveled across the highway into the opposing lane of travel.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Safety is the key word for trick-or-treating, which will be held in Punxsutawney Monday, Oct. 31, beginning with the traditional firefightersâ parade at 6 p.m., and trick-or-treating to follow until 9 p.m.
All youngsters in the borough â including East End children, who will trick-or-treat Saturday â are welcome to participate.

BROOKVILLE â It may be fall and closing upon Halloween, but donât expect to see much orange â orange jumpsuits, that is.
During Mondayâs meeting of the Jefferson County Jail Inspection/Intermediate Punishment Board, Sheriff Carl Gotwald reported that the Orange Patrol will not be up-and-running until he receives more participation from the inmates.
Currently, he is down to one volunteer.
The sheriffâs office and jail oversee the Inmate Work Release Program, and its Orange Patrol performs jobs throughout the county, including snow removal, painting, clean-up and maintenance.

YOUNG TOWNSHIP â On the heels of a rash of burglaries in the Punxsutawney area, the Punxsutawney Moose Club, located along Route 436, was burglarized around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police.
Police reported that actor(s) entered a rear door of the club by force and removed approximately $1,000 in cash.
In the past few weeks, similiar incidents have occurred at Punxy Phil's Family Restaurant; Neko's Restaurant; Cookie's Caboose; Mary's Place; and Union Drilling.
PERRY TOWNSHIP â A Punxsutawney man suffered major injuries in a one-vehicle accident that occurred at 1:10 a.m. Saturday on Route 536, Perry Township, according to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police.
Police said a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Huston K. Yeaney, 25, Punxsutawney, was traveling west on Route 536 when the crash occurred.
Police said Yeaney was driving too fast on the wet roads while negotiating a left curve when he drove onto the shoulder of the road.
