PUNXSUTAWNEY — U.S. Rep. Glenn "GT" Thompson told the audience at Friday's "Legislative Breakfast" that despite all the doom and gloom that his constituents hear in the mainstream media regarding the economy, there is a reason to be optimistic.
Thompson was the speaker at the breakfast that was sponsored by the Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce, and he said that the U.S. has always had challenging times throughout its history.
Each year, five women are chosen by the Punxsutawney Career Women’s Club for Career Women’s Week. The criteria used for choosing these women are based not only on their professional efforts, but also on the contributions they have made to community and family.
BROOKVILLE — Another chapter in the appellate process of Robert Gene Rega has concluded, as Jefferson County President Judge John Foradora on Thursday denied Rega’s amended petition for Habeas Corpus Relief.
June 21, 2002, Rega was convicted of first-degree murder and various other offenses.
Upon the sentencing jury’s recommendation, the court sentenced him to death. Since that time, Rega has been housed at SCI-Greene awaiting execution.
Rega was convicted of killing night watchman Christopher Lauth at the Gateway Lodge in the Dec. 22, 2000, robbery and shooting at the lodge.
