Supervisor: Tank might have a year of life left

October 28, 2011

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Wednesday, members of the Punxsutawney Area School Board received a recommendation from the district’s maintenance department regarding the replacement of a cold water storage tank at Longview Elementary School.

The tank was leaking, but when a maintenance crew went to fix it, another leak started, Superintendent Dr. Keith Wolfe said.

The 1,000-gallon tank is the original to the building, and now, the district is on borrowed time as far as its reliability — maybe a year, said Phil Heitzenrater, district maintenance supervisor.

East End invites everyone to a spooky time

October 28, 2011

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It should be a hauntingly good time in Punxsy’s East End during its annual Halloween trick-or-treat night Saturday, with many scary surprises for little and big ghosts and goblins.

If trick-or-treaters are looking for a frightening — yet fun — experience, they should check out the display at the home of Michele “Boo” Lorenzo and Jan Zamperini, 709 East Mahoning St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday during East End’s trick-or-treat night.

Lorenzo said this is the ninth year for her Halloween spectacular, and all for the same reason: For the kids.
