Officer: We had many successful hunters

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Beautiful weather Monday contributed to a large turnout of buck hunters in southern Jefferson County for opening day.

Pennsylvania Game Commission Wildlife Conservation Officer Mike Girosky reported that the opening week of the popular rifle season had its ups and downs in regards to the weather.

Woman suffers injuries in Friday wreck

PUNXSUTAWNEY — A Glen Campbell woman had to be extricated from her vehicle by firefighters following a crash that occurred at 5:15 p.m. Friday on Church Road, Canoe Township.

According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Raye A. Fry, 41, Glen Campbell, was traveling south on Church Road when she lost control on the snow and ice covered road, which caused the vehicle to turn counter- clockwise.
