PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” The Salvation Army in Punxsutawney is in need of much help, as itâ€™s only a little over halfway to its goal of $50,000 in the final week of the Red Kettle Campaign.
Keith Jache, co-corp commander, said Punxsutawney is a very generous community, and the Salvation Army is confident that residents will help the organization meet its goal.
â€śPunxsy has always been a very generous community, and we thank them for all the help theyâ€™ve given us over the years,â€ť he said.
Currently, the Salvation Army has raised $28,628.
BIG RUN â€” Big Run Borough Council gave final approval at Mondayâ€™s meeting to its 2011 budget with no tax increase.
Council president Nick Lantz announced at Novemberâ€™s meeting that there was a surplus of $57,635 from this past year.
He pointed out that once again, there would not be a tax increase for borough tax payers, and that the last tax increase in Big Run was more than 20 years ago.
