Punxsy's boys' golf squad fell to a tough opponent in Indiana on Wednesday, while the girls took to the road and earned a forfeit win over Ridgway.

Members of the CREATE Brookville Photo Club opened their first group exhibit at the CREATE Cafe last Friday. Mary Catherine Fleming, of Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Punxsutawney, she was the daughter of the late Joseph U. Rowbottom and E. Bonita (Ackerd) Rowbottom.
On Aug. 27, 1950, she married Robert B. Fleming. He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1997.
Mary was an excellent cook and baker. Her biggest enjoyment was her family and children.

Those interested in scouting can find out how by coming to Grace United Methodist Church, located below the Punxsutawney Area Hospital, from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Punxsy Cub Scout Pack 245 will be having its sign-ups. Those unable to attend can contact Cub Scoutmaster Greg Kunselman at 952-3400. Pack 245 will be accepting sign-ups until Oct. 1.
Punxsy's volleyball squad was one of seven sports in action on Tuesday for PAHS.
The Lady Chucks won a thriller over the Lady Beavers of DuBois.

John Francis Orsich, 47, of Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 at his home.
John was born Aug. 8, 1967, in Punxsutawney, a son of Alice (Kaza) Orsich of Punxsutawney, who survives, and the late Frank Orsich.
He was a member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Church in Punxsutawney.
John was employed by Goodwill Industries in the Punxsy retail store.

The Ice Bucket Challenge trend has been sweeping the nation to raise awareness for Lou Gehrig's Disease.
The faculty at Jenks Hill Elementary took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Friday afternoon. The faculty was challenged by PAHS Principal Dave London. They are challenging all the elementary school principals and the athletic committee staff. Participants included Deidre Martino, Kelly Fisher, Holly McCausland, Roberta Fetterman, Andrea Caylor, Judy Fetterman, Julie Baun, Cody Wells, Chris Fallat, Deana Myers, Shannon White, and Stefanie Neal.
The NCAA has lifted the on-the-field sanctions placed on the Penn State football team for the Jerry Sandusky scandal, including immediately eliminating the postseason ban and restoring scholarships. Penn State was halfway through a four-year postseason ban handed down during the summer of 2012. The NCAA rescinded some of the scholarship sanctions last year. In a news release Monday, the NCAA says that in addition to the postseason ban being lifted, Penn State will be allowed to have the full complement of football scholarships in 2015.
