Kaleb Young, who is currently in the midst of a run at the PIAA State Championship for AAA at 152 pounds, picked up a victory Friday afternoon in the quarter-finals to advance to Saturday's semi-finals.
Young defeated Downington East's James Meyer to earn the spot, with just four left in the champion's bracket. The semi-final round for AAA will begin Saturday at 9 a.m.
Two members of the Chucks wrestling team made the trip to Hersheyâ€™s Giant Center to kick off the PIAA State Wrestling Championships on Thursday. Punxsy junior Kaleb Young (pictured in the left photo) picked up a 6-1 decision over Bethel Parkâ€™s Nino Bonaccorsi â€” who defeated Bob Endy of St. Josephâ€™s Prep in the first round, 15-0 â€” to advance to todayâ€™s quarter-finals. There, Young will face Downington Eastâ€™s James Meyer. That round begins at 1:30 p.m. today. Like Young, Meyer received a bye in the first round, and in Round 2, he defeated Exeter Townshipâ€™s Ethan Stever in a 3-1 decision.
A two-vehicle accident was reported at 8:01 p.m. on Wednesday on Route 36 and Elderberry Hill Road, Fairview, Bell Township when a vehicle was traveling north on Route 36 and the driver lost control on the snow-covered road and crossed into the southbound lane. The vehicle was then struck by another vehicle, as the other vehicle traveled off the road and struck a snow bank. PSP-Punxsutawney was assisted at the scene by the Punxsutawney Fire Department, Jefferson County EMS and Rebuck's South Side Service. No further details are available at this time.
Punxsy's Kaleb Young (pictured here) and Perry Arrington traveled Wednesday to the PIAA State Wrestling Championships in Hershey, Pa., where they will open action Thursday. The preliminary round and first round will be wrestled Thursday night.
BROCKWAY â€” Jefferson County President Judge John Foradora officially announced his candidacy for Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court during a Tuesday meeting with supporters at The Rocky Grill in Brockway, according to a press release from his campaign team.
Due to weather conditions school has been cancelled for the Punxsutawney Area School District and SS.C.D.
Several members of the youth group at the First Church of God in Punxsutawney were out helping the Salvation Army refill the shelves at the emergency food bank on Monday. Pictured are Devanne States, Garrett McQuown and Nashaun Damore. Capt. Keith Jache, Salvation Army co-commander, said that many people brought food items for the food bank throughout the day Monday. He said a church from Troutville also brought non-perisahble items to the corps and that the need for items is year-round, with all donations being appreciated.
Crews from Punxsutawney Fire Department are among those responding to a reported structure fire in the area of 301 E. Main Street in Reynoldsville, according to scanner reports.
This is in the area of Dave's Main Street and the Reynoldsville Laundromat.
Due to the ice storm that will be hitting our area the Punxsutawney Area School District/SS.C.D. will be having an early dismissal. Schools will be dismissing students three hours early.
