Richard James Covatch, 80, of Punxsutawney, died on Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at UPMC-Montefiore Medical Center in Pittsburgh.
He was born April 21, 1934, in Rossiter, the son of the late Charles and Mary Jane (Barnett) Covatch.
He was married for 50 years to Mary Louise (Maddox) Covatch, who preceded him in death on July 27, 2008.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of the American Legion.
He was a laborer in the construction industry for many years.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” On Thursday evening, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club opened its doors to the public for an open house. Katie Donald, executive director, said that this open house was being put on as a "thank you to the community for its support with Groundhog Day."

Jacqueline F. Kriner, 87, of Wishaw Road in Reynoldsville, died at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.
Born on July 26, 1927 in Porter, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George I. Fordoski and Letha L. Freedline Fordoski.
On June 12, 1943, she married Chester B. Kriner, who preceded her in death on March 19, 2002.
Grace M. Courtwright Filer, 101, of Indiana, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at Communities of Indian Haven.
She was born in 1913 in Rossiter, to Armour J. and Carrie Pearce McFarland.
Mrs. Filer was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Indiana, where she was active with the Golden Heirs Senior Group, the Alliance Women and served as a Sunday School teacher and Deaconess.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Four Punxsutawney area food pantries received a donation from the John W. Jenks Lodge No. 534 F&AM Masonic Lodge in Punxsutawney on Tuesday, prior to the organizationâ€™s meeting.
Betty Jane Brown, 69, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Feb. 7, 1945, in Salisburg, Pa., the daughter of the late Donald L. and Beulah (Paulhamas) Roupp.
She married Ronald Brown, who survives, on June 16, 1962.
She was a homemaker.

Brayden Wyant is a very strong young man who has been through a lot in his five years on this Earth. Monday, he faces another surgery.

Punxsy's girls' tennis team advanced to the District IX finals with a 3-2 win over St. Marys on the courts at PAHS on Wednesday.
