B. Joyce Dunmire, 81, Punxsutawney, died Monday, June 13, 2011, at her home in Juneau.
She was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Rossiter, a daughter of the late Eli Blackman and Mary Elizabeth (Tyler) English.
April 10, 1948, she married William Dunmire, who survives.
Mrs. Dunmire was a member of the Chestnut Grove Independent Church and was a member of various vocal groups, including Harmony Four, Joy Bells, the Harmony Trio and Ladies' Ensembles. She sang in choirs and performed countless solo work at weddings, funerals and churches.
Robert Murray, 89, Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late George W. and Edith (Coy) Murray.
He was married to Mabel (Young) Murray, who preceded him in death in 1998.
Mr. Murray loved working in his garage and doing mechanic work. He was employed at Jefferson Grocery for many years and also the B&O Railroad. He enjoyed spending time with his family and looked forward to their visits.
Theresa "Tootsie" A. (Gagliardi) Astorino, 83, Walston, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Jefferson Manor following a short illness.
She was born July 1, 1927, in Walston, the youngest child of the late John and Mary (Demyan) Gagliardi.
April 29, 1950, she married Guy M. Astorino, who passed away July 11, 2007. They were married for 57 years and lived in Walston and bestowed their traditional values while raising their four sons.
Jeffrey Allen Getch, 46, Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011.
He was born Aug. 1, 1964, the son of the late James and Joanne (Beatty) Getch.
Mr. Getch was a lumber grader for Brookville Wood Products and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
He is survived by two sons, Brock of Punxsutawney and Chase; a brother, Jay Getch and wife Annette of Punxsutawney; and three sisters, Joleen Getch of Salisbury, Md., Jeneen Phillips of Salisbury, Md., and Joy Getch of Clarion.
Rossiter, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011, at Indiana Regional Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Hawk was born June 13, 1952, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late Edith A. (Hawk) Lewis.
May 29, 1981, he married Barb (Bennett) Hawk, who survives, of Rossiter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two aunts, Josephine Gaffney of Punxsutawney and Tilly Hawk of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; cousins Helen Latta of Punxsutawney, Janet Kunselman of Summerville, Linda Orr of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Kerri and Kevin Hawk of Aliquippa; and a step-brother, Allen Lewis Jr. of Ohio.
Plantation B&B is Juneâs âGarden of the Monthâ
PUNXSUTAWNEY â The winner of the June "Garden of the Month" is Julie Branken's Plantation Bed & Breakfast along Route 119, just south of Punxsutawney.
"I love the plants, but I never research, or I'm (not) one of those people who go and learn about what flower goes where," she said. "I just do what I feel."
Arriving from South Africa more than 13 years ago, Branken moved into where the plantation is now and started to "fix the place up."
Darrell F. Bowser, 66, Mahaffey, died Monday, June 6, 2011, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born Aug. 14, 1944, in Mahaffey, a son of the late Frank M. and Dorothy Mae (Peace) Bowser.
April 26, 1969, he married Lana N. (Russell) Bowser, who survives, of Mahaffey.
Mr. Bowser was the owner of Bowser Precision in Mahaffey. He loved turkey hunting, fishing, weekends at camp with the guys, riding horses, gardening and the outdoors. He drove racecar No. 89 and was the former Rookie of the Year in the coupe division.
David D. Geer, 55, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born Jan. 20, 1956, in Brookville, a son of the late David E. and Betty J. (Smith) Geer.
July 18, 1987, in Punxsutawney, he married Leona M. âSueâ Courson, who survives.
Mr. Geer was employed by Humphrey Charcoal in Brookville and was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 983 in Brookville.
Lilly âSueâ Pearce, 81, a resident of Beaver Elder Care & Rehab Center, Hopewell Township, and formerly a lifelong resident of Ambridge, died Monday, June 6, 2011.
She was born Oct. 26, 1929, in Sykesville, a daughter of the late Frank E. and Maude (Craft) Fleeger.
For 61 years, she was married to Howard C. Pearce, who preceded her in death in December 2007.
Mrs. Pearce was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ambridge.
Douglas H. Snyder, 56, Mayport, died suddenly Saturday, June 4, 2011, in Newark, N.J.
He was born July 26, 1954, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Howard D. âSnitzâ and Sarah Josephine âJoâ (Caylor) Snyder.
Dec. 13, 1997, he married Doris J. (Hendricks) Snyder, who survives, of Mayport.
Mr. Snyder drove a truck for J&B Leasing Company of Toledo, Ohio.
