A FAMILY OF JUMPERS
An Amusing Incident Which
Happened While at Dinner
ROSSITER â Back in late October, Vernon Winebark, of Rossiter, received a call he's been waiting for the past nine years: One confirming that he was one-of-56 lucky hunters chosen to receive an elk license in the Pennsylvania Game Commission's annual license drawing.
Even better news came in that phone call when he was informed that he was one of just 18 hunters to receive a tag to bring down a bull this year.
INDIANA â Every day, Brenda Hays is inspired by her daughter, Christy.
A 14-year-old student at DuBois Area Senior High (DASH), Christy spends her time as if she has nothing holding her back.
An honor roll student, Christy volunteers her time at Christ the King Manor, playing games with the residents and also making crafts.
She is currently knitting blankets to donate to the local police departments and the ambulance service for trauma situations and accidents.
She's also greatly involved in 4-H, hoping it'll put her on the right track to a career in veterinary science.
BROOKVILLE â Continuing to grapple with the loss of its administrative fee, the Jefferson County Solid Waste Authority is seeking donations from willing townships and municipalities.
At Wednesdayâs meeting of the authority, Solid Waste/Recycling Coordinator Donna Cooper reported the amount of donations coming into the authority for 2012 is more promising than figures from 2011.
For 2012, $9,525 has been committed to date.
Local youngster Garrett Swartz shot this eight-point buck with an impressive 18-inch spread Monday, the opening day of season, while hunting in the Grange area.
Megan Wazelle, of Punxsutawney, brought down this 185-pound seven-point Monday while hunting in the Adrian area. The buck was Megan's first.
Carlie Woods, 17, of Punxsutawney, nabbed this 160-pound, four-point buck Tuesday while hunting in the Rossiter area.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Two members of VFW Post 9044, Big Run, recently returned from a visit from Washington, D.C., to view the World War II Memorial and other memorials commemorating other fallen soldiers.
Robert Lott and his wife, Ann, had visited the memorial while it was still under construction. It opened in 2004.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Punxsutawney Area High School chapter of the National Honor Society welcomed 18 new members â four seniors and 11 juniors â during a ceremony held Thursday at the high school.
The new members bring the total number of students in the PAHS chapter to 34.
