MARION CENTER â Though the 55-9 score indicates a blowout, the Punxsy wrestling team hopes Tuesday's performance against Marion Center is its worst of the season.
Due to Marion Center having just seven wrestlers on the varsity roster, Punxsy received six forfeits to total 36 points. Aside from the forfeits, Punxsy (1-0) would have earned a 19-9 victory on the mat, but head coach Eric Eddy wasn't pleased with his team's sluggish performance.
NEW BETHLEHEM â For the first time since Jan. 6, the Punxsy boys' basketball team exited the court with a victory Tuesday night.
Thanks to a defense that forced turnovers and allowed just two third-quarter points, the Chucks (1-1) ended their 15-game losing streak with a huge 62-34 victory over Redbank Valley in New Bethlehem.
Early in the contest, when Punxsy was ahead just 14-12 after the first quarter, the Bulldogs were getting to all of the loose ball first.
DUKE CENTER â It wasn't the best game the Raiders have played in recent years, but it was still a win.
Brookville traveled all the way to Duke Center Tuesday to take on Otto-Eldred, and though it returned with a 59-28 victory, Brookville head coach Bud Baughman wasn't too thrilled with his team's performance.
"I didn't think we played real well in any phase of the game tonight," Baughman said. "It was a long trip though, and we're happy to get the win."
Leading the way for Brookville offensively was Zane Hackett, who netted 16 points on eight baskets from the field.
Patricia Perry, 63, of Georgia, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center, Punxsutawney.
She was born June 21, 1947, in St. Petersburg, Fla., a daughter of the late Raymond B. and Charlotte L. (Perry) Tucker.
Ms. Perry is survived by Lloyd A. Pope of Georgia, two sons, David G. Pope and Daniel A. Pope, all of Georgia; a daughter, June A. Wells and husband Don of Punxsutawney; two grandchildren, Angel Wells and Harley Wells; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan West and Baily West.
Timothy Dean Sheriff, 51, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at home.
He was born Jan. 3, 1959, in Punxsutawney, a son of Ronald Sheriff of DuBois and Mrs. John (Gladys Carr) Oaks of Punxsutawney.Â
Mr. Sheriff was employed at NAC Carbon Products in Elk Run.
He was a member of the Punxsutawney Eagles Club.
He adored his daughter, Carrie Sheriff of Bradford, whom he loved very much.Â
Dorothy R. Zimmerman, 85, of Custer, S.D., passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Castle Manor in Hot Springs, S.D.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Diane Trithart of Custer; a grandson, Tim Trithart and wife Kristina Hendrickson of Rapid City, S.D.; two great-grandchildren, Ella Blue Trithart and Sawyer Gray Trithart; and two sisters, Helen Burns McConnel of Pittsburgh and Virginia Lunt of Johnstown.Â
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at the Custer Lutheran Fellowship with Pastor Tom Opoien and Pastor Kent Narum officiating.
BROCKWAY â Right now, the only thing 10-year-old Cody Kuntz of Brockway is really worried about is his continuing visits to the dentist.
Due to a chromosome disorder, Cody â the son of Dan and Barb Kuntz of Brockway â has no adult teeth to fill in when his baby teeth fall out, and heâs looking at needing a palate or braces, because his adult teeth wonât replace babyâs teeth he loses.
âI just wish my mouth was normal,â he said, adding, âI just hope when my growth spurt comes, Iâm going to grow.â
CLARION â Joe Sestak, the recently defeated candidate for a U.S. Senate seat, visited DuBois and Clarion Tuesday as part of a state-wide tour.
The purpose of the tour, Sestak said, was to thank those who supported him. In doing so, though, he answered questions and addressed issues of concern for his constituency.
âThis is my thank-you tour,â he said. âAnd a chance to say, âYes, we can do this. We came so close in a year when every other Democratic candidate in Pennsylvania was getting smoked.ââ
BROOKVILLE â Brookville Hospital announced this week that it will no longer offer intensive care services to extremely ill patients.
The decision to change services comes about due to little or no patient volume in the hospitalâs ICU, according to hospital president and chief executive officer John Sutika.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â Whether it was shooting beyond the arc, rebounding the ball offensively or defending the Punxsy girls' basketball team, Altoona had the Lady Chucks' number Monday night in Punxsutawney.
Kayla DeCriscio nailed five three-pointers and led all scorers with 19 points during the Lady Lions' 73-31 victory.
Punxsy, which trailed 40-13 at halftime, slumped to 0-3 on the season.
The Lady Chucks were held to single digits during every quarter, including five in the first frame. Altoona was ahead 22-5 entering the second quarter.
