PITTSBURGH â A Punxsy native who had formerly served as a police officer with three different municipalities will see jail time in a state correctional institution after he pleaded guilty to drug charges Monday.
Allegheny County Judge Joseph K. Williams III sentenced Charles "Chuck" Lindy Edwards III, 30, to four to eight years in state prison for a heroin delivery charge after a plea arrangement Monday.
ST. MARYS â The Punxsy junior-varsity boys' basketball team outscored St. Marys 18-9 during the final period of a 58-54 triumph Tuesday in St. Marys.
Punxsy was behind 31-29 at halftime before the Dutch extended their lead to 45-40 entering the final quarter. That's when the Chucks (9-8) turned it up a notch to down the Dutch.
Tim Pearce finished with a huge game, scoring 15 points behind three three-pointers and three two-pointers.
ST. MARYS â The Punxsy junior-high wrestling team lost its first two bouts by decision before winning 11 of the next 13 matches during a 55-15 victory over St. Marys Wednesday night on the road.
The Chucks improved to 13-2 on the season and have won 13 of their last 14 matches. Of Punxsy's six wins on the mat, two were by fall, one was by major decision and three were by decision.
Karen Diane Edwards, 66, El Monte, Calif., died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at Arcadia Methodist Hospital in Arcadia, Calif.
She was born April 24, 1944, in Sarasota, Fla., the daughter of James E. and Faye (Young) Martz, who survive.
Sept. 16, 1967, she married Thomas G. Edwards, El Monte, Calif., who survives.
A member of the St. James Lutheran Church of Ringgold, Mrs. Edwards was retired after 45 years of teaching.
Fred C. Kammerdiener, 74, Northpoint, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Latrobe.
He was born May 1, 1936, in Putneyville, a son of the late Harold L. and Dorothy Marie (Lorigan) Kammerdiener.
June 1, 1963, he married Louise Kunselman, who survives.
Mr. Kammerdiener served his country in the U.S. Navy.
He worked in the mining industry in all aspects for more than 30 years, including several years working with and for his father and his company. He retired in 1994 due to a mining accident.
Theo C. Miller, 75, Mahaffey, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born April 20, 1935, in Mahaffey, a son of the late Oran and Della (Stagner) Miller.
Mr. Miller was married to Lornabelle (Hollen) Miller, who preceded him in death Oct. 29, 2006.
He was a journeyman lineman for Penelec and a member of IBEW Local No. 126 and No. 459. He enjoyed working, hunting, feeding his turkeys and was always willing to help his family and friends.

ST. MARYS â Punxsy senior Kody Young knew the Chucks would hold on for a win once six bouts remained during the Punxsy wrestling team's match against St. Marys Wednesday night.
Punxsy was ahead 22-12 after 189-pounder Tige Woodson, Young's senior teammate, suffered a loss by decision, but Young was still certain his squad would come out on top.
Punxsy lost the next two bouts by fall and fell behind 24-22, but clutch decision victories by two freshmen, and Young's pin during the final match of the night propelled the Chucks to a 34-30 upset of the Dutch on their Senior Night.
BROOKVILLE â The last time the Brookville girls' basketball team played Elk County Catholic, nothing went right for the Lady Raiders.
Starting forward Emily Ferraro was out with an injury, the Lady Raiders had to travel to play the Lady Crusaders on a Saturday night after playing a tough game against St. Marys the night before, and the Lady Raiders were in the middle of a four-game losing streak.
But when the two teams met Wednesday night at Brookville, the Lady Raiders' luck changed.
Victoria Joan Basile, 93, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011.
Mrs. Basile will be remembered as a wonderful woman with a great love for her family, her friends and her faith. She was a sweet, kind lady who thought of everyone before herself. She was always positive and fun-loving. Optimism and laughter were important ingredients in her good life. She was a fabulous cook; enjoyed playing cards and always laughed gleefully when she won; was a loyal Steelers fan; and always made every family birthday and holiday a special, memorable occasion.
Daniel Johnson, 68, Punxsutawney, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2010, at his home.
He was born Feb. 22, 1942, in Buffalo N.Y., a son of the late Daniel and Ruth (Brown) Johnson Mannerberg.
Mr. Johnson was a laborer.
Surviving relatives include a brother, David L. Johnson and wife Cindy of Punxsutawney; three sisters, Donna L. Lorelli and husband Dick of Anita, Darlene Milliron and husband Dallas of Punxsutawney, and Debbie K. Means and husband Bob of Punxsutawney; and several nieces and nephews.
