Charlotte S. Himes, 94, Coolspring, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at her home.
She was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Worthville, a daughter of the late Quay and Eliza (Straitiff) Doverspike.
Ms. Himes was a school teacher for 43 years at Punxsutawney Middle School, where she taught reading and English.
She was a member of the Coolspring United Methodist Church.
Ms. Himes loved and enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, Connie and Leslie, her boys, Tanner and Brodi, and her beloved cats.
WEST MIFFLIN â€” According to Punxsy girls' head coach Barry Young, it was a "cold, wet, windy and miserable" day weather-wise Saturday at the Tri-State Track and Field Coaches Associa-tion's (TSTCA) outdoor championships in West Mifflin â€” but the show went on.
The meet hosted a number of the top track programs in the state â€” including a large sampling of Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) schools known for their strong athletics programs.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Despite trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Chucks JV baseball squad never quit battling and came back to earn a 7-5 victory over Williamsport behind a sixth-inning grand slam by Hunter Hickok Saturday afternoon in Punxsutawney.
"Wow, what a game," Punxsy coach Rodney Thompson said after the game. "Coach (Jeremy) Hospodar and I are very proud of these guys and their effort to stay positive and find a way to win. It was a great team effort, and everyone contributed in some way.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Punxsutawney Borough Police Officer Brian Andrekovich will receive $91,109.46 in a monetary settlement, according to information released Monday by Punxsutawney Borough Council.
Council voted 7-0 at a special meeting last Tuesday to award Androkovich money for lost wages, interest on lost wages, mileage and parking but did not disclose the amount at the meeting.
The Punxsutawney Spirit filed a Right to Know request for the information Wednesday, and the borough responded to the request Monday in an e-mail from Borough Manager Ben White.

Raymond Frederick Dush, 77, Brookville, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at his home.
He was born Feb. 20, 1935, in Brady Township, Clearfield County, a son of the late Pirl and Ella (Bailor) Dush.Â
Aug. 7, 1960, he married Dorothy (Jean) McCracken, who survives, at the Richardsville Baptist Church.Â
Penny E. Pearce, 57, Frostburg, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital.
She was born Nov. 11, 1954, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Jessie Brocious.
She was married to Gary L. Pearce, who survives, of Frostburg.
Mrs. Pearce loved garage sales, flea markets and her cats. She also loved working on the computer.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Despite looming rain clouds, Punxsy hosted the Williamsport Millionaires Saturday afternoon, and with a strong combined shutout by starting pitcher Dane Baker and relief pitcher Cory Geer, the Chucks earned a 6-0 victory to close out a successful week against AAAA schools.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” As the warmer weather returns, more and more people will be spending time outdoors at lakes and streams where water-related accidents might occur, which is why the Punxsutawney Fire Department has a water rescue team.
The team was formed in 1974, and in the 90s, the boat crew and dive team were combined into the water rescue team, said Matt Powell, dive master for the Punxsutawney Fire Department.
SMICKSBURG â€” Star Wars, Bob the Builder, the Steelers, Mickey Mouse, Toy Story, Super Mario, Hello Kitty, WWE, Pokemon, pigs, penguins, lions, tigers and bears â€” oh my! All of these designs have been made into cakes by Jessica Fairman, of Fairman's Cakes.
Just about any idea that can be dreamed up, she can make into a cake.
Five years ago, Fairman decided to take cake designing classes at Michael's in Indiana and discovered she really enjoyed the trade. She said she has always had an interest in art and found her niche when she applied it to sculpting cakes.
