PUNXSUTAWNEY â âAll the worldâs a stage,â according to Shakespeare. Now, the Punxsutawney Theatre Arts Guild Inc. (PTAG) is proving the truth of that famous comment through its new Web site, punxsytheatre.org.
Developed through the efforts of Guild member Jef Dinsmore and Web site designer John McManigle of Brookville, the site is a âone-stop location for all news and information about PTAG,â according to Dinsmore.
Maurice E. George, 87, Johnstown (formerly of North Freedom), died early Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the Maple Winds Care Center in Portage.
He was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Redbank Township, Armstrong County, a son of the late William M. and Carrie (Dinger) George.
Jan. 31, 1945, he married Betty M. Brocious, and they recently celebrated their 66th anniversary.
Mr. George was a member of the North Freedom United Methodist Church. He was the secretary and treasurer of the Redbank Township (Armstrong County) supervisors for 35 years and was a scoutmaster.
John E. "Jack" Kovalyak, 81, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Jefferson Manor, Brookville.
He was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late John and Anna (Kallas) Kovalyak.
Aug. 30, 1952, he married Shirley (Dorworth) Kovalyak, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Kovalyak was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Byznatine Church.
He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. He was hard-working and independent all of his life, and was very fond of his four-legged friends, especially his dog Roxy.
Surviving relatives include four nephews and four nieces.
Merle F. âFrankâ Milliron, 89, Rochester Mills, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.
Mr. Milliron was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
He was married to Alverda (Plyler) Milliron, who survives, of Rochester Mills.
Mr. Milliron was a man of many talents: A Christmas tree trimming artist, stone mason, Truck Patch Farmery (grew giant pumpkins) and loved having dogs near.

CLARION â Led by a two-time state runner-up, a trio of Punxsy wrestlers will compete in the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championship Tournament this weekend at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre.
Kaleb Young, a runner-up at the PJW state tournament the past two years, will once again compete at states, which take place Friday and Saturday.
For the second-straight year, Young will be joined by Josh Schuckers and Troy Peace after all three finished within the top two places of their weight classes and age divisions at the Area V Tournament last Saturday at Clarion University.
BROOKVILLE â Tuesday, the Jefferson County Commissioners proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Jefferson County.
Pat Berger, executive director of Western PA CARES for Kids, was on hand for the proclamation. She said the effects of child abuse are long-term and far reaching.
âChild abuse is a community problem, and the community needs to be involved to prevent child abuse,â Berger said. âThere are more than three million children abused each year, and the effects are felt by the whole area.â
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Will Marcellus Shale drilling in the Punxsutawney area be an asset to area businesses?
Thatâs the question the Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce hopes to answer when it hosts a program, âMarcellus Shale Development: Maximizing the Benefit for the Local Economy,â 7 p.m. Wednesday at the IUP Fairman Centreâs second-floor auditorium, 101 West Mahoning St.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â While saying that changes in policy are needed in some state government departments, State Sen. Joe Scarnati said Tuesday that the amount of money in this yearâs proposed budget simply will not increase.
The state senate has held the line on taxes the last four years, and Scarnati said taxes will not be increased this year.
âItâs clear that taxpayers donât have any more to give,â he said.
Therefore, he said the state has to find a way to fund necessary and desirable programs with the money available.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Out with the old and in with the new, as the Lindsey Fire Company received its new tanker Monday.
Lynn Kolaja, of Kolaja Fire Equipment Sales in Union City, said he drove the truck from Delavan, Wis., where it was built by U.S. Tanker.
Kolaja said the new tanker was constructed on a Freightliner commercial chassis; has a 3,000-gallon tank; a 3,000 gallon port-a-tank; and a 500-gallon-per- minute pump, which will allow firefighters to attach hose, if need be.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â The honor was given last year, but Tuesday, state Sen. Joe Scarnati saluted CRW Home Center and its owners, Tim and Cindy Chambers, as the 2010 Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year.
The award is given annually to a business that exemplifies the values and principals of a community-oriented small business.
âThese businesses are the foundation of our communities throughout the Commonwealth,â Scarnati said. âFor that reason, it gives me great pleasure to be here today and to recognize CRW Home Center.â
