PUNXSUTAWNEY — Jason Neyman is a familiar face. You may recognize him as a tutor for Keystone SMILES AmeriCorps who recently helped with the summer school program. Or perhaps you have seen him throughout the community.

Music in the Park opens with G-3, ends with Remedy X

It was a beautiful evening for Music in the Park on Thursday with the classic rock band "Remedy X" — formerly known as “G-3” before adding a new member — putting on a rocking performance for the crowd.

Road closure scheduled for Route 3011 structure replacement in Jefferson County

OLIVER TOWNSHIP — Beginning Monday, Aug. 4, at 7 a.m., Route 3011 (Burkett Hollow Road) will close to traffic between Route 36 and Route 3018 (Branch Road) for a pipe replacement in Oliver Township, Jefferson County.

Work includes replacing the structurally deficient drainage structure carrying Route 3011 (Burkett Hollow Road) over a tributary to Clutch Run with a precast concrete pipe.

A detour will be in place using Route 3011 (Burkett Hollow Road) to Route 3018 (Branch Road) to T-721 to Route 3031 (Coolspring Road) to Route 36 to Route 3011 (Burkett Hollow Road). (See map)

Lawrence E. Reitz, 80

Lawrence E. Reitz, 80, Route 36, Brookville, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at home.

He was born March 26, 1934, in Brookville, a son of George I. Reitz and Althea Dempsey Reitz.

On Sept. 7, 1956, in Brookville, he married Hazel I. Shaffer, who survives.

While still in high school, Lawrence began working for the business George I. Reitz and Sons in Brookville, which his father had founded in 1944.

He continued to work for that same company until his retirement in
1996.

He was a lifetime member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Brookville.

Marie P. Farcus, 93

July 30, 2014

Marie P. Farcus, 93, Walston, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at her home.
She was born April 3, 1921, in Walston, a daughter of the late Samuel and Rachel (Bianco) Belott.

In January of 1938, she married John E. Farcus, who preceded her in death on March 25, 1968.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church of Walston.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and spending time with her family and was always willing to lend a hand whenever it was needed.

She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society.

Penfield man, 73, killed in two-car accident

HUSTON TOWNSHIP, CLEARFIELD COUNTY — DuBois-based Pennsylvania State Police reported a fatal two-car accident that occurred at 11:26 a.m. on Wednesday on Route 255 (Hoovertown Road) in Huston Township, Clearfield County.

Police said that the crash occurred as a 2004 Freightliner Tri-Axle operated by Larry W. Kunes, 65, of Weedville, was traveling northbound on State Route 255. A 1998 Toyota Camry operated by Arnold W. Burkett, 73, Penfield, had been travelling westbound on Mt. Pleasant Road and had stopped at its intersection with State Route 255.

Master Gunnery Sergeant Richard Titus, 76

LEXINGTON, OHIO: Do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason. That simple principle became Richard Titus’ life compass as he honorably served his family, his country and his Marine Corps.

Master Gunnery Sergeant Richard Titus passed away Wednesday morning, July 30, 2014, in OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield (Ohio) Hospital. He was 76.

Born Richard Allen Titus on July 11, 1938, in Kane, to Gregg and Margaret (Miller) Titus, he graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1956.

Irene (Cukanna) Smee, 92

Irene (Cukanna) Smee, 92, of Harrisburg, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014, in the Harrisburg Hospital.

She was born May 22, 1922, in Punxsutawney; the daughter of Frank and Rose (Hvavka) Cukanna.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Joseph Smee Jr; her son, Joseph Richard Smee of Blue Bell, Pa.; her daughter, Judy Jacobs of Orlando, Florida; six grandsons, Jason Smee, Christopher Smee, Joshua Smee, Ryan Jacobs, Bradley Jacobs and Matt Jacobs; and her sister, Sue Morris of Sykesville.

Janet A. Schiafone, 73

Janet A. Schiafone, 73, of Euclid Ave. Brookville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.

The daughter of William Hart Commons and Elizabeth Taylor Commons, Janet was born on Oct. 14, 1940, in Barnesboro, Pa.

On May 20, 2000, she married William Joseph Schiafone Sr., who survives, in Brookville.

She worked as a custodian for the Brookville Area School District for more than 25 years.
