John J. Smith, 85, of Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at Jefferson Manor, Brookville.

All arrangements are private for family and under the direction of the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

Stephen M. Boddorf, 57

Stephen M. Boddorf, 57, of Summerville, Pa., went to be with the Lord, Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at Penn Highlands Healthcare in DuBois, Pa.

Born Oct. 12, 1957, in Brookville, Pa., he was the son of the late Robert and Barbara Keck Boddorf.

Steve was a graduate of Brookville Area High School. On Feb. 14, 2005, Steve was married to Doris Jean Pago at the Hawthorn Methodist Church. She survives in Summerville.

Steve was employed at Beverage Air in Brookville as a class A machine operator. He would have been employed 39 years in January.

Route 36 Rivalry double header

December 12, 2014

Friday night, the Route 36 Rivalry was alive and well, with two different Punxsy-Brookville contests being held. In Brookville, the boys' basketball team (John Matthews pictured above) ran past the Raiders for a 59-49 victory. In wrestling, Brookville evened the score with a 60-6 win over the Chucks.

Salvation Army working toward kettle goal

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Salvation Army is halfway to its red kettle goal for this year.

One of the traditions of the Christmas season is the Salvation Army bell ringers located at the plazas throughout the area.

Make-A-Wish, Light Up A Child’s Life Campaign helping wishes come true for local kids

BELL TOWNSHIP — A Bell Township boy and his family took a trip to the
beach for his wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

With the annual "Light Up A Child’s Life" campaign set to begin on Monday,
Dec. 15, it’s time to meet another local Wish Kid.

Girls' basketball outduels Brookville

Punxsy's girls' basketball team jumped out to an early lead and managed to hold on for a 38-32 victory over Route 36 Rival Brookville Thursday night in Punxsutawney.

Chucks fall to tough Cameron County squad

The Chucks basketball team lost to a tough Cameron County squad on the road on Wednesday night, 51-40. Punxsy's Dylan Huey (pictured here) was the Chucks' top scorer with 15 points.

Today's PAHS schedule has just one contest on it, as the girls' basketball team will play host to Brookville. JVs start at 6 p.m., and the varsity will take the court afterward.

Council approves sale of house on repository list

Fire dept. boot drive proceeds go to helping needy families

The Punxsutawney Fire Department distributed food baskets and gave donations to eight area food banks on Monday. Scott Depp, Central Fire Department chief, said $8,136.75 was raised during the annual boot drive held Nov. 22 and Nov. 23 and that they distributed baskets to 14 needy families.
