Day 4 of Make-A-Wish campaign sees total surpass $30,000

It was Day 4 of the "Light Up a Child's Life" campaign for Make-A-Wish on Thursday morning, and both PAMS and PAHS participated in the campaign. Pictured are members of the PAHS Choir, who sang Christmas carols. As of Thursday morning, Lindsey Herzing, Make-A-Wish regional manager, said the campaign had raised almost $24,000. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Make-A-Wish was at Miller Brothers Furniture, where the campaign continued with the annual auction. Herzing said that this year, they are doing something a bit different by showing everything that is being bid on.

Cheryl Marie Sibley McMinn, 88

Cheryl Marie Sibley McMinn, 88, formerly of Punxsutawney, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, at her home in Dunedin, Florida.

She was born Dec. 21,1925, in Brockway, to Lorena and Everett Sibley.

On Nov. 9, 1942, she married Wayne J. McMinn Sr., who preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2009. They were members of the First United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney until they retired to Florida.

Cheryl worked as a secretary in the records department at the Adrian Hospital and retired as a secretary for the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop C in 1977.

Light Up a Child’s Life campaign over $21,000

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Day 3 of the Punxsutawney "Light Up a Child's Life" campaign for Make-A-Wish started off with a bang on Wednesday, with Punxsutawney native and Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco and his wife helping out at Caterina's Cafe for the Make-A-Wish campaign.

In the afternoon, Make-A-Wish traveled to Mulberry Square, where the SS.C.D. Children's Choir sang beautiful Christmas carols for the residents.

James L. “Skip” Kunselman, 78

James L. “Skip” Kunselman, 78, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at UPMC Hamot, following a brief illness.

He was born in Hamilton, Pa. on Oct. 28, 1936, a son of the late Oral and Mary Edna Kunselman.

Skip was employed at General Electric Co. until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. He collected beach glass and made beach glass jewelry.

Elsie E. “Betty” Zents, 89

Elsie E. “Betty” Zents, 89, of Brookville, Pa., died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at Brookside Senior Living, Brookville.

She was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Brookville, a daughter of the Clarence W. and Rose Winters Dinger.

On May 5, 1950, she married the late Francis E. Zents, in Brookville. He preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2001.

For 41 years, she was co-owner and bookkeeper for Zents Brothers Construction in Brookville and also worked for several years at G.C. Murphy Company in Brookville.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Robin Williams was the Most Popular Google Search Term of 2014

According to Google, which released a report Tuesday on the top trending terms of the year, the top term overall was "Robin Williams," after the well-known and popular comedian died in August. No. 2 was "World Cup," the global soccer tournament held in Brazil in June. Third on the list was "Ebola," the highly contagious virus.

Joe Lundy, 70

December 16, 2014

Joe Lundy, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, in Warren, with his family by his side.

He was born on July 15, 1944, in Punxsutawney, the son of Earl and Jane Lundy.

Joe graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School in 1962 and would go on to work at Van Huffel Tube and Vanex Tube. He retired in 2011.

In his free time, Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, walking his dog, Molly, and NASCAR. Joe was also a member of the Bazetta Cortland Optimist Club and served as governor and president of the organization.
