Jeff Tech Class of 2014 graduates

REYNOLDSVILLE — While other school districts across the area graduated their outgoing seniors, the school that serves students from all of them — Jeff Tech — saw the remainder of the Class of 2014 out during a ceremony on Wednesday evening.

The main commencement address was delivered by Valedictorian Hannah Rummel, an IT Academy Digital Media Technology student.

Crews fight North Mahoning Twp. garage/shop fire

NORTH MAHONING TOWNSHIP — A garage machine shop and storage area was completely destroyed in a huge fire that could be seen in the skies of southern Jefferson County and downtown Punxsutawney prior to noon on Wednesday.

Perry Township, Lindsey, Marion Center and Plumville volunteer fire companies responded at 11:09 a.m. Wednesday to the Jared W. Clemmer residence at 2738 Beaver Road, North Mahoning Township, to a reported garage fire, which turned out to be a machine shop that was also used as storage for farm equipment.

Waving goodbye to the school year

On Wednesday, students across the area waved goodbye to the 2013-14 school year and welcomed summer vacation. Pictured above are Parkview Elementary Students waving as they leave school for the last time in the next few months. Pictured below are the teachers and staff members, who greeted the buses on their way around the building to wave goodbye to their students one last time this year.

Edna L. Shaum, 89, Oliveburg

June 4, 2014

Edna L. Shaum, 89, Oliveburg, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Penn Highlands Healthcare, DuBois.

She was born June 29, 1923, in Gaskill Township, a daughter of the late Grover C. and Larue (Cassiday) Rhoads.

She was married to Oscar Dee Shaum, who preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 2009.

She was a member of the Oliveburg Presbyterian Church.

She was a former employee of Stewarts Drug Store.

Surviving relatives include a sister, Mary Jordan of Oliveburg, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Raymond E. Raybuck, 75

June 4, 2014

Raymond E. Raybuck, 75, of Kissimmee, Florida, formerly of Indiana, Pa., quietly passed away on May 4, 2014, due to complications from pneumonia and COPD.

He was born June 21, 1938, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Paul H. and Helen Mary (Sadler) Raybuck.

His mother survives and resides at the DuBois Village.

On Sept. 7, 1979, he married the former Deborah A. Vennard in Homer City. She survives.

Ray proudly served in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers for 11-1/2 years, serving three tours in Vietnam.

He was a member of the First Army Pistol Team, where he won several awards.
