Local Scout Stambaugh puts his service to use with Mahoning Shadow Trail project

Pictured is the unveiling of the new message board at the Water Street entrance to the Mahoning Shadow Trail, an Eagle Scout project done by Daniel Stambaugh of Boy Scout Troop No. 245.

Sidewalk Prophets perform local concert

June 13, 2014

Friday evening, local fans of the famous Christian band Sidewalk Prophets were finally able to see the band live, thanks to the Punxsutawney Christian School, which contacted the band and brought it to Punxsutawney.

The band performed in front of a large crowd consisting of those of all ages.

Opening for the band were About a Mile and Brookville native Caleb Dinger.

Punxsy memorial Library bids adieu to Coral Ellshoff

Friday being a Friday the 13th wasn’t the only thing special about the day, as it also saw the Punxsutawney Memorial Library bidding farewell to Coral Ellshoff, who has served as library director for many years.

Though she will always love Punxsutawney, a place she has called home, she said is making the journey back to Minnesota to be closer to family.

Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters of America teaming up to sponsor bloodmobile on Tuesday

The Knights of Columbus (KOC) Council No. 452 and Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) Court Saint Rita No. 353 are sponsoring a Red Cross bloodmobile at SS.C.D. on Tuesday, June 17 from noon until 6 p.m.

All blood types are needed, and walk-ins are welcome.

Roby Junior Grose, 83

Roby Junior Grose, 83, of Big Run, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at home.

He was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Crumpler, West Virginia, the son of the late Roby and Kathleen Letha (Hager) Grose.

He was Protestant by faith.

On June 6, 1953, he married Ruby Jean London. She preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 1986.

He then married Sharon Leone (Bausch) Derise on May 26, 1990. She survives.

Mr. Grose previously worked as the Jefferson County Conservation District manager; he was also a New York Life Insurance agent, but at heart, he was a dairy and beef farmer.
