Huey battling rare form of cancer, looking for ways to help others fight

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It's a diagnosis that no one ever wants to hear, most certainly a young person — and that is cancer. For 23-year-old Stephanie Huey, it was the diagnosis that changed her life.

When one thinks of cancer, many of the obvious types may pop into the mind, such as breast cancer, lung cancer or pancreatic cancer.

However, what many don't realize is that there are other rare forms of cancer as well.

It was in July 2012, when Huey was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer
called Angiosarcoma.

William “Bill” Becker, 94

William “Bill” Becker, 94, Snyder Road, Brookville, Rose Township, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Brookville Hospital, peacefully, surrounded by family.

He was born Feb. 24, 1920, in Brookville, a son of John Becker and Theresia M. (Kasparek) Becker.

He was married to Bertha A. (Snyder) Becker for one year, before she preceded him in death July 30, 1945.

Feb. 28 1947, in Oakland, Maryland, he married Althea B. (Snyder) Becker, who survives, and they celebrated 67 years of marriage.

William briefly served and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army.

Ruth M. (Bodenhorn) Hoch Trithart, 97

Ruth M. (Bodenhorn) Hoch Trithart, 97, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Jefferson Manor Health Center, Brookville.

She was born Dec. 23, 1916, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Jacob and Ethel L. (McCormick) Bodenhorn.

She was first married to Preston S. Hoch on June 16, 1948. He preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1971.

She then married Arment N. Trithart on Aug. 7, 1975. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1992.

She was the last remaining of her family.

She attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church.

PSP: Two arrested in narcotics investigation

BROOKVILLE — Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police reported Wednesday that two Brookville residents — Keith A. McNaughton, 29, Brookville, and Kari L. Housler, 26, Brookville — were arrested
at 124 Crestwood Circle in Brookville in relation to a narcotics investigation that started back on April 1.

Police said that on April 1, the Jefferson County Drug Task Force and the Troop C Vice Unit began an investigation into the manufacturing and
distribution of methamphetamine from 124 Crestwood Circle.

Bernice Elaine Seger, 82

Bernice Elaine Seger, 82, of Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at home.

She was born March 30, 1932, in Smithport, a daughter of the late Ord and Anna Louise (Wetzel) Huey.

On June 21, 1952, she married Lester Ray Seger.

He preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1996.

Her enjoyments were watching QVC, birds and deer. She also enjoyed her beloved cat, Cotton.

Albert D. Raffetto, 93

May 21, 2014

Albert D. Raffetto, 93, of Pleasant Gap, Pa., passed away on May 18, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 5, 1921, in Punxsutawney, to the late Frederick J. Raffetto and Jenny C. Bonini Raffetto.

He graduated in 1939 from Saints Cosmas and Damian High School in Punxsutawney and served in the United States Army during World War II.

In 1942, he married Jean Jordan, who preceded him in death in April 2010.

Albert was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte, Pa., and was also a life member of the B.P.O.E., Bellefonte Lodge.

Patricia A. Cressley, 61

May 21, 2014

Patricia A. Cressley, 61, Rochester Mills, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at home, after a two-year battle with brain cancer.

She was born April 26, 1953, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Paul I. “Ike” Mottorn and June (McGaughey) Mottorn, who survives.

On June 26, 1971, she married Fred A. Cressley, who survives.

She was a member of the Juneau United Methodist Church.

She worked as the CFO for DuBois Regional Medical Center for five years and has worked at DRMC for more than 25 years as a C.P.A.

She graduated summa cum laude from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Pack 245 helps Legion place flags on markers

The members of Cub Scout Pack 245, their families and some representatives of Girl Scout Troop 20293 weren’t deterred by a little bit of rain and some chillier temperatures on Saturday, as they made their way to the John Jacob Fisher Post 62 American Legion Cemetery Plot and Circle Hill Cemetery to place American flags on the markers of past veterans who have been laid to rest there.

Close race between Dush & Corbin unfolds in District 66; Dush wins in narrow race, absentees still to be counted

BROOKVILLE — Tuesday's Jefferson County primary election saw one particular race of interest, and in the end, it proved to be as
close as many thought it would be, with Cris Dush receiving 2,508 votes (51.70 percent) for the spot on the Republican ticket for Representative in the General Assembly 66th District and Paul Corbin receiving 2,166
(44.65) votes within the county.

(Results are unofficial and were obtained through jeffersoncountypa.com, the county's website.)

Harry G. Bodenhorn also received 166 votes on the ballot.
