Terry "Rat" Smith, 65, of Punxsutawney, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born April 30, 1948, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late Blair and Louise (Henneman) Smith.

He was married to the former Marian Troutman.

He was a truck driver.

He was a member of the Perry Township Fire Department and the Lindsey Fire Company.

He was a member of the Valier United Methodist Church.

William H. “Bill” Neville, 83

March 30, 2014

William H. “Bill” Neville, 83, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Porter Township, Jefferson County, a son of the late Avery and Lola (McDonald) Neville.

On July 2, 1955, he married Patricia Ann (Sprankle) Neville, who preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2007.

He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Punxsutawney.

Mr. Neville was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.

HOOPS FOR HOPE FUNDRAISER A SLAM DUNK

Hoops for Hope, the Punxsutawney Fire Department vs. Punxsutawney Borough Police Department fundraiser, was held Saturday evening at the Punxsutawney Area Community Center gymnasium to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

The police (in blue) won the contest 55-50, but everyone was a winner in contributing to the cause.

Melissa McAfoos, event organizer, said everyone who participated in the event showed their dedication through hard work.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Relay for Life team Betty's Angels.

David Trainor, of Walston, was arrested here last Friday evening by Policeman Kirk Patrick, charged with stealing an ox from Frank Ferringer, who resides near New Maysville, Clarion county.

Police find dog in Smicksburg

March 30, 2014

WEST MAHONING TOWNSHIP — Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police recovered a large male dog at noon Saturday along Griffith Road in Smicksburg, West Mahoning Township, Indiana County.

The dog has no tags or collar and is currently being held at the Indiana County Humane Society.

Anyone missing a dog is asked to call police at 938-0510 to identify it.
