Snow removal costs are piling up for Punxsutawney borough

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsutawney Borough is down to its final delivery of salt and anti-skid, even as the winter of 2013-2014 continues to take its toll on the borough's snow removal budget.

"We finally dodged a major storm for the first time over the weekend, which may be the first time this year," said Ben White, Punxsutawney Borough manager at Monday's Public Works Committee meeting.

How sweet it is: Two Punxsy wrestlers Hershey-bound

This past weekend, members of the Punxsutawney Area High School wrestling team took to the mats at Regionals with their berths to this week’s PIAA State Tournament on the line, and two Chucks — Kaleb Young and Joel Bowers — advanced to the action in Hershey with second-place finishes in their brackets.

Connie Gresock, 81

Connie Gresock, 81, Punxsutawney, died Monday, March 3, 2014, at her daughter Cindi’s home.

She was born on Jan. 21, 1933, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Gus Charles Whitman and Yvonne (Kubeldis) Whitman.

On July 10, 1954, she married William H. Gresock, who preceded her in death on May 22, 2003.

She was a member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church of Punxsutawney.

She loved Bingo, cards, gambling, animals, reading books herself and reading books to her students.

John “Pat” Nadji, 66

March 3, 2014

John “Pat” Nadji, 66, Pifer Street, DuBois, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Shadyside in Pittsburgh.

Born March 16, 1947, in DuBois, he was the son of the late John & Genevieve (Duffalo) Nadji.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War.

On July 12, 1968, he married Rebecca “Becky” (Ball) Nadji. She survives.

After 30 years of service, he retired from the United Parcel Service (UPS).

He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church.

Rodney L. Miller, 60

March 3, 2014

Rodney L. Miller, 60, Punxsutawney, died Monday, March 3, 2014, at home.

He was born Dec, 8, 1953, in Punxsutawney, the son of A. Leroy and Orpha E. (Yoas) Miller.

On Oct. 24, 1998, he married Darlene J. (Smith) Miller, who survives.

He attended the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Trade City.

He enjoyed tractors, guns, antiques, auctions and woodworking.

He was a vice president of the Rossiter Sportsmen’s Club and a lifetime member of the N.R.A.

He was the owner and operator of Rodney L. Miller Welding.
