FORT INDIANTOWN GAP â If you didn't grow up as a family member of someone who was in The National Guard, chances are there's a little bit of confusion as to what exactly the role these individuals who serve might play.
In college, I had some Guard friends, and I always sort of saw them as part soldier, part civilian. But earlier this month, I had the opportunity to take part in a Boss Lift program held at the training grounds for The Guard at Fort Indiantown Gap, and it was there that I learned there is much more to it than that.
Friday, the Punxsutawney Christian School Class of 2013 celebrated its graduation, and seven graduates received their diplomas.
Speaking at the event was Michele Huey, founder of the board of directors and author.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â After 14 years and a month, the Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce will be under new leadership, as Marlene Lellock will be taking her talents to the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center as its new executive director.

Rev. Richard C. Sharp, 79, of Boiling Springs, S.C., went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, May 18, 2013.
A native of Aiken County, S.C., he was the loving husband of Esta K. Sharp and the son of the late William A. Sharp and Bessie Jones Sharp.
He obtained a bachelorâs degree as a physicianâs assistant in the United States Air Force and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant after serving 22 years.
He then obtained his masterâs degree in Divinity with Christian Education from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, N.C.

Punxsutawney American Legion
The Memorial Day Parade is set for Monday, May 27, and will begin around 10:30 a.m. at Mitchell Avenue in Punxsy. The service will be held at Barclay Square following the parade, at about 11 a.m.
Big Run VFW
Big Run VFW Post 9044 will hold its annual Memorial Day Program on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in Big Run, or, in the case of inclement weather, the Big Run War Memorial Building. The keynote speaker will be First Sergeant Bill Foster. The Reynoldsville Theater Group will perform special music. The public is invited.
As the school year winds down, Thursday was a very special day for the Class of 2013 at PAHS â Class Night.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â Following Wednesday's committee meeting, Punxsutawney Area School Board President Gary Con-rad said that the board needs to "get serious" about budget cuts.

Marilyn Louise (Yeaney) Himes, 72, Huntingdon, Oneida Township, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at home, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Mrs. Himes was born in Punxsutawney, a daughter of Howard W. and Helen M. (Kromer) Yeaney.
She was united in marriage to Peter G. Himes on April 19, 1957, at the Ringgold United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gorman officiating.
Her husband preceded her in death on April 5, 2012, after 55 years of marriage.
She attended Punxsutawney Area High School.
