Darien A. Neal, 43

April 30, 2013

Darien A. Neal, 43, of Rossiter, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at home.

He was born July 2, 1969, in Punxsutawney.

Darien worked for Joe Hanley Construction.

He was a devoted and loving father to his son, Orion.

He enjoyed playing baseball, and he absolutely loved fishing and hunting.

Darien was a kind and thoughtful man.

He made friends easily with his warm smile and gentle nature, and he always spoke well of others.

Marvin E. Richardson, 82

April 30, 2013

Marvin E. Richardson, 82, of Rossiter, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at his home.

He was born June 12, 1930, in Johnsonburg, a son of the late Lee and Jennie (Yohe) Richardson.

July 1, 1953, he married his sweetheart, Mary Virginia (Reece) Richardson, who survives, of Rossiter.

Mr. Richardson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Marvin was a 1949 graduate of Marion Center High School.

He was the owner of Marvin's Used Cars since 1977, and in 1991, began operating Marvin's Garage with his son Dan.

Local business owners concerned over recent rash of break-ins

Police are looking into a break-in at Lily's Restaurant and Bakery in Punxsutawney, where a "substantial amount of cash" was lost early this morning, according to a report by WPXZ 104.1 FM.

The station reported that this is the second recent break-in at Lily's and one of several reported at local businesses of late.

The report also says that Lily's, Walker Auto Parts, Subway and ISDA have been victimized and that a "substantial reward" is being offered by business owners for any information leading to the arrest of individuals responsible.

Indiana Co. woman wants to help area parents get a ‘GRASP’ on grief

INDIANA — Susan Kelly is a woman who knows that the worst kind of grief comes from losing a child. Even worse, perhaps, is losing that child to drugs.

That is exactly what happened to Kelly, when her beloved son, Daniel "Hat" Cernic, died at the age of 23 from a heroin overdose in 2005.

To this very day, Kelly grieves for the child she lost to something that has taken so many young lives.

Kelly, a mental health therapist and self-employed mental health consultant, worked for 22 years at the Indiana Guidance Center.

Demolition of former Rumors building begins

With plenty of other construction already underway in town, another project started Monday morning, as crews started to take down the former Rumors building on W. Mahoning Street.

Fortunately for locals, the new building (seen in background) opened a few months back.

Old Home Week preparations underway with just a few small changes in the works

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Despite the fact that there won't be a carnival this year for the Punxsutawney Fire Department's Old Home Week, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Festival Committee and Tim Krise are pitching in to help.

Scott Depp, chief of Central Fire Department and a member of the Old Home Week Committee, said two days will be added to the schedule to help out the fire department, since the committee was unable to obtain a carnival service to replace J&J Amusements' services.

PSP-DuBois investigating rape, indecent assault

REYNOLDSVILLE & FALLS CREEK — DuBois-based Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an incident of statutory rape and an incident of indecent assault in two separate cases.

According to police, around June of 2012, a known male who was then 19 allegedly sexually assaulted a female who was 15 at the time.

The incident occurred in Reynoldsville.

Police are also investigating an incident of indecent assault that occurred between January and March of this year in Falls Creek and involved a known male suspect and a female.

Karen Leigh Davis, 53

April 29, 2013

Karen Leigh Davis, 53, of Punxsutawney, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born July 3, 1959, in DuBois, a daughter of the late Edward Leo and Helen Marie (Carol) Mitcho.

On June 3, 1983, she married Kevin Charles Davis, Sr.

She was a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church.

Mrs. Davis was a home ec teacher for the Punxsutawney Area School District.

Her enjoyments were cooking, having a good laugh with her family and spending time with them, and the family dog, Tanner.

Bessie Magill, 88,

April 29, 2013

Bessie Magill, 88, of Brookville, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Jefferson Manor.

She was born March 14, 1925, in Ohl, a daughter of the late Jacob and Mary H. (Raybuck) Reitz.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

In 1970, she married Paul E. Magill.

He preceded her in death on May 2, 1989.

Bessie worked at Jefferson Manor until her retirement in 1979.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Clair, Charles and William Reitz; and a sister, Anna Reitz.

During Sunday’s Loyalty Day commemoration, Big Run VFW Post 9044 Adjutant Bob Lott (left) and Post 9044 Commander Jim Pallone (right) present area student Lana Malia with a certificate recognizing her for her efforts in creating a permanent record of veterans' graves at two area cemeteries as her senior project.

Rep. Glenn Thompson was the keynote speaker.
