Traffic Update: I-80 westbound has reopened near Clearfield

CLEARFIELD — advises drivers that Interstate 80 westbound near Clearfield now has both lanes reopened as of 12:45 p.m. Sunday.

The roadway was closed earlier today due to a crash between mile-marker 120 at the Clearfield interchange to mile-marker 111 at the Penfield interchange.

The detour that was in place during the closure has been lifted. The roadway reopened about three hours ahead of schedule.

PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution as they travel today and give themselves extra travel time.

Salvation Army receives donation from Bar Association

‘Tis the season to be helping, as the Jefferson County Bar Association recently gave a donation to the Punxsutawney Salvation Army.

James E. Hanson, 78, of DuBois

James E. Hanson, 78, of DuBois, formerly of Marienville, Pa., died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born Sept. 10, 1935, in DuBois, the son of Charles and Alta Hanson.

On Dec. 2, 1956, he married the former Sandra Anderson, who preceded him in death in 2004.

Mr. Hanson worked as a PBX repairman for what was Bell Telephone, AT&T and is now Lucent Technology. He was a former small businessman in Marienville dealing in Maytag appliances.

He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting snowshoe rabbit and running dogs.

Josephine E. Morris, 98

Josephine E. Morris, 98, Brockway, formerly of Oliveburg, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Highland View Health Care, Brockway.

She was born on Aug. 26, 1915, in Oliver Township, a daughter of the late Thomas Otto Enterline and Zelda Rae (Kuntz) Enterline.

On Aug. 8, 1943, she married Charles Stanley Morris, who preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1997.

She was a member of the Oliveburg Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.

She enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, cooking, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a long-time member of the Ladies Aid Society.

Mary May Emberg, 77

Mary May Emberg, 77, of Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She was born Feb. 23, 1936, in Mackeyville, Pa., a daughter of the late Orvis and Bertha (Nihart) Barner.

In 1964, she married Donald Emberg. He preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1974.

She previously worked at Invensys in DuBois.

Mary loved her family, being outside gardening, and she also had a tender heart for animals.

She had a friendly, warm spirit and made friends everywhere.

Rose Marie Goyette, 75

Rose Marie Goyette, 75, of Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

Miss Goyette was born Aug. 15, 1938, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Catherine (Caloger) Goyette.

Rose was a member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Catholic Church.

She was employed by Lorree Footwear before retirement. She was a member of the Green Thumb Program at the Punxsutawney Library.

She is survived by her brother, Nicholas A. Goyette of Medina, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

Jeff Tech JOC reorganizes

The Jeff Tech Joint Operating Committee (JOC) held its reorganization meeting on Thursday.

The committee is made up of representatives from the four sending districts of Punxsutawney, Brookville, DuBois and Brockway. Shelly Caine, Brockway, was elected chairperson, while Francis J. Molinaro of Punxsy was elected vice chair.

PUNXSUTAWNEY— Clint Reed is a recognizable face. You may recognize him as the maintenance supervisor at the AGAPE student housing building, or perhaps you have witnessed his musical talents on display at either Music in the Park or the most recent Tunes for Tots event.

Mary Lou “Millie” Bonadio, 86

Mary Lou “Millie” Bonadio, 86, of Somerset, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at her home.

She was born Jan. 14, 1927, in New Martinsville, W.V., a daughter of the late Clarence Lee and Maude Evelyn (Smith) Prichard.

Millie was a 1945 graduate of Punxsutawney High School.

Until her retirement, she was co-owner/operator of Pennsylvania Propane, along with her husband, the late Francis Anthony “Tony” Bonadio, who preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 2009.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Homemakers Club.
