In Doubt of Their Man
A man supposed to be Jacob Bookamire, who is charged with the murder of William Cunningham, in Banks township, Indiana county, March 16, 1894, was captured at Bolivar, Westmoreland county, on March 20, and placed in the Indiana jail.
Hazel D. Freedline, 90, of Punxsutawney, formerly of Newtonburg, Clearfield, County, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
Mrs. Freedline was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Patchinville, a daughter of the late Carl T. and Daisy L. (Solley) Sunderlin.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Freedline, on Aug. 16, 1993.
Hazel was Protestant by faith.
She was a member of the Westover Golden Agers, Mahaffey Fire Company Ladies Auxillary, Board of Elections for Bell Township and the Bell Township Grange.
Blaine B. Wachob, 73, of DuBois, died Friday, March 15, 2013, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois.
He was born Aug. 20, 1939, in Big Run, a son of the late John and Sarah (Bowers) Wachob.
July 10, 1970, he married Deanna S. Gidley Wachob. She preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 2007.
Mr. Wachob attended Big Run School and was a retired truck driver for Cable Trucking of Brookville.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp.
He attended the First United Methodist Church in Reynoldsville.
Mr. Wachob was a member of the John M. Read Lodge F&AM in Reynoldsville.
Irene J. Duda, 77, Sykesville, died Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Christ the King Manor after a short illness.
She was born Feb. 10, 1936, in Rossiter, a daughter of the late John and Ann (Senott) Sitosky.
Irene was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sykesville.
She worked at Paris Cleaners.
She was a member oh the Sykesville Ambulance Board.
Irene loved being a homemaker and cooking, and her greatest joy was her grandchildren
She lived most of her life in the Sykesville area.
Carmen J. Cuccaro Cook, 86, of Punxsutawney, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at his home in Punxsutawney.
He was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Benjamin Cook and Mary (Rich) Cook.
He was a member of the United States Army, serving during World War II.
He attended SS. Cosmas & Damian Church.
He was employed by Jefferson Wholesale Grocery.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He loved his children and grandchildren.
John Fred Depp, Jr., 74, of Hamilton, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Scenery Hill Manor In Indiana.
He was born Oct. 11, 1932, in Punxsutawney, a son of John Fred Depp, Sr. and Katherine (Braughler) Depp.
He married the former Sally Waite.
He was a self-employed farmer and excavator.
He was the treasurer of the Class of 1957.
He loved gardening, being outdoors and hunting.
He loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
March 15th
KNOX TOWNSHIP — PennDOT District 10 is advising motorists that the railroad overpass on Route 3011 (Knoxdale Road) in Knox Township will be removed.
Work includes removing the exiting overpass carrying the Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad over Route 3011 between T-405 (Bellport Road) and T-841 (Ramseytown Road).
Beginning, Monday, March 18, at 7 a.m., Route 3011 will closed to traffic and a posted detour will be in place.
The detour will use T-841 and T-405.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Residents of Punxsutawney and motorists who travel on Route 119 will benefit by the replacement of the bridge carrying Route 119 over Elk Run in Jefferson County.
This structurally deficient bridge was built in 1929 and carries 11,607 vehicles per day.
Beginning the week of March 18, daylight flagging operations will be in place on Route 119 between Clark Street and Orchard Street. Congestion and delays are possible in the work zone area; please be patient and allow extra time for your travel.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Instead of a dead ringer, you can be a live ringer if you attend the The Silver Ring Thing (SRT) Rewind Tour to be held at 7 p.m. today at Punxsutawney Area High School Auditorium.
Silver Ring Thing is a powerful youth event that defies the norms of culture and inspires students to a pure life centered in Jesus Christ, said Mike Hammer, First Church of God Youth pastor.
"Several area churches are hosting the REWIND Tour — challenging students to live for more than just the moment and begin with the end in mind," Hammer said.
St. Patrick's Day is Sunday, and those at the Pine Street Senior Center celebrated early on Thursday with a party that included great food and some bingo.
The event was coordinated by Mindy Grose, the new senior center director.
Grose started her new position just three weeks ago after working for 20 years at a retirement community, in Wisconsin.
The Senior Center is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
