October 27, 2013

PUNXSUTAWNEY — You are never too young to have a dream, and for one local boy, that dream is to visit other countries and to see different walks of life.

For Brendon Stinson, a sophomore at PAHS, that dream seemed unlikely until he received an invitation that would soon change his life.

Stinson was recently chosen as a student ambassador for the People to People Ambassador Programs.

He is currently raising money for his trip overseas and is planning to hold a bake sale/soup and sub day on Friday, Nov. 29, at the Jefferson Highrise Social Center.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — If you are a patron of the Punxsutawney Memorial Library wondering why the librarians aren't shushing you lately, its probably because they can't hear due to the renovations that are taking place at Punxsy's hot spot for reading and technology.

Coral Ellshoff, library director, said that the renovations are a bit out of sight for the public because they are taking place behind the wall of the circulation desk, which isn't seen by the public.

For the full story on the renovation project, see Saturday's edition of The Spirit.

BROCKWAY — Thirty-four degress with a brisk breeze is the perfect football weather.

But when it comes to a good, old-fashioned futbol game, it's less than ideal.

Regardless of the conditions in Brockway, the boys' soccer team walked away from its first-round playoff match against Clearfield as the 4-1 winner.

"This was cold, but I'll take it," head coach Phil Shenkle said. "I was afraid it was going to be wet and gross. This was perfect."
