Ruth A. Young, 87, Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at DuBois Nursing Home.
She was born May 21, 1925, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Otto and Mary (Mee) Ott.
She married Robert L. Young, who preceded in her in death.
She was a devoted wife and mother.
She was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Surviving relatives include two sons, William R. Young and wife Janice of Punxsutawney and Ronald A. Young and wife Elizabeth âBetsyâ Young of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Margaret Wachter of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren,

BROOKVILLE â On a chilly day along Interstate-80, Punxsy was still able to record many personal best efforts amongst a 22-team field at Saturdayâs 15th Annual DeManâs track and field invitational.
The Chucks boys, highlighted by Kevin Hughes' and Will Harmonâs days, totaled four first places, while the Punxsy girls had three top- three placings in the non-team scoring event.

As a whole, the Punxsy boys had a good day with various personal best performances recorded.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â A good start to a full slate of weekâs games was just what Punxsy head coach Mike Dickey would have ordered.
The Chucks used a solid all-around game, both on the mound and at the plate, to take the Lions of Altoona, 11-2, on Monday afternoon in Punxsutawney.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â Monday saw local crews battle a pair of fires â a quickly spreading one that started at 3:50 p.m. on Monday at 131 Orvetta St. in Punxsutawney and an evening fire that started in the flue of a house on Railroad Street in the Rossiter area.

Punxsutawney Head Start Centers I, II and III and Early Head Start and Pre-K Counts Center, held an open house on Monday afternoon.
The open house gave students a chance to show what they are learning as well as what they do on a daily basis.
The event was also open to community members who may have been looking for a place to send their children.
âThis is a nice opportunity for people to come and see what we're all about," said Autumn Reddinger, faculty member.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â Saturday, Punxsutawney Area High School's Athletic Department will host its Punxsutawney Sports Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony at the Punxsutawney Area High School.
In anticipation of the event, The Spirit will feature the biography of one member of the Hall of Fame Class of 2013 each day.
Today's featured athlete is Kim Duke.
Duke was a member of the Class of 2000 and was an outstanding athlete and letter winner in basketball, track and field and volleyball.

Retired members of the Punxsutawney National Guard are planning a reunion to be held May 11 at the Punxsutawney Lions Club.

Ed Decker is a 1978 graduate and was the first football player in the history of PAHS to set a record of 1,000 yards rushing.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â It is said that when William Penn discovered Pennsylvania in the 1680s, at least 95 percent of the land was covered by forest.
Its hard to believe that now, as we look around us at the once-big forest now populated with towns and cities.
Once known as the lumber region, Pennsylvania became the home of many lumber camps.
Traveling from one lumber camp to another was William T. Clarke, a photographer who loved capturing the daily life of the lumber industry.
DUBOIS â On behalf of Gov. Tom Corbett, PennDOT has announced that work to improve the Route 119/322 "Blinker Parkway" intersection in Sandy Township will begin today.
When work completes late this year, area drivers will be able to travel through a wider intersection with improved visibility and enhanced safety.
Work will include construction of turning lanes, roadway widening, slight roadway re-alignment, drainage improvements, new curbing and sidewalk, curb ramps and traffic signal upgrades.
