Duffy L. Henretta, 60

November 20, 2013

Duffy L. Henretta, 60, of League City, Texas, formerly of Bradford, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, in Jennings, LA.

Born June 3, 1953, in Cleveland, he was a son of Robert B. Henretta of Bradford, and the late Shirley A. (Grove) Henretta.

On Dec. 15, 1990, in Albany, N.Y., he married Carole (Sheldon) Henretta, who survives.

Mr. Henretta was a 1971 graduate of Bradford Central Christian High School.

He served in the United States Marines Corps from 1971 to 1975 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant.

BREAKING NEWS:Lees Jr. waives right to preliminary hearing

Kenneth Lees Jr. waived his right to a preliminary hearing at District Judge David Inzana's office this morning.

Lees Jr. is charged with simple assault, fleeing and eluding, recklessly endangering another person or persons and a variety of traffic offenses for his alleged involvement in events surrounding a late September shooting in Brockway that wounded PSP-DuBois trooper Brad Wilson.

Making wishes come true in 3D

The Punxsutawney Make-A-Wish Radiothon "The Light Up a Child's Life Campaign” will be coming up the week of Dec. 16 on 104.1 FM WPXZ.

Leading up to that week, The Spirit will be telling more Wish Kid stories, and coverage of the event will also be available in The Spirit.

Knights of Columbus generosity brings warmth to area kids

Brookville Knights of Columbus Council 3966 recently donated 24 winter coats to boys and girls in Jefferson County.

Shown here are John Palmer (left) and Ron Battaglia (right) of the Knights of Columbus giving the coats to Bethany Lindemuth of the Jefferson County Children and Youth Services Advisory Board.

Tunes for Tots set to rock the town

November 18, 2013

The third annual Tunes for Tots and Auction will be taking place at 6 p.m. this Saturday at the Punxsutawney Eagles.

The event, which is being sponsored by the Eagles and Moose clubs, will feature seven different local bands, a silent auction and food.

Mo-Valley paranormal investigators creep through Punxsy

HOUTZDALE — When it comes to ghosts and the paranormal, there are those who believe and then those who remain skeptical.

Though Halloween is over, the subject of ghosts hit Facebook around the beginning of November, when the Mo-Valley Paranormal Investigation team visited a local establishment.

Tyson Lidgett, lead investigator of Mo-Valley Para-normal, said that he is studying his findings from a Punxsutawney establishment.

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Clark Street and Hampton Avenue on Sunday.

Barnyard Buddies 4-H decorates tree for food pantry; votes due by Dec. 10

Jefferson County’s Barnyard Buddies 4-H launched a community service project in October to raise money for the local food pantries in Jefferson County.

The response from the community has been great, and the club thanks all who have donated thus far.

The club has now expanded its drive to nearby DuBois.

Members were invited to decorate a Christmas tree in the DuBois Mall.

During their October meeting, the members made decorations for the tree.

Voting for the best tree is by donation to the food pantry.
