William J. Bridge, 86

April 1, 2013

William J. Bridge, 86, of Cloe, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Mr. Bridge was born Jan. 14, 1927, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Thomas L. Bridge and Hazel (Fetterman) Bridge.

On Aug. 18, 2005, Mr. Bridge was preceded in death by his wife Vera C. (Smith) Bridge.

He was the owner of Bills Chassis Alignment in Cloe.

He attended the Cloe United Methodist Church and was the former Post Commander of the Punxsutawney VFW.

His hobbies were woodworking, hunting and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dorothy M. "Dollie" Lauer, 89

April 1, 2013

Dorothy M. "Dollie" Lauer, 89, of Punxsutawney, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Mahoning Riverside Manor.

Mrs. Lauer was preceded in death by her first husband, John Lauer, and her second husband, Alfred L. Lauer.

She was a member of St. Peter & Paul Byzantine Church.

Dollie worked many years for Jerko's Confectionary and the Carroll House Dress Shop in Williamsport before retiring.

She loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and the Lawrence Welk Show.

Wilda N. Reitz, 95

April 1, 2013

Wilda N. Reitz, 95, formerly of Timblin, died on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

She was born on Jan. 14, 1918, in New Salem, a daughter of John L. and Mabel M. (Wise) Reitz.

Wilda was a member of the New Salem United Methodist Church, and when she moved to Timblin, she attended the Life Fellowship Church. She worked for Rola Jensen.

She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Klingensmith of New Castle and Joan Yeager of Indianapolis, Indiana; a brother, Paul Reitz and his wife Joyce of Timblin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

DaFEAT gearing up for Autism Awareness Month events

PUNXSUTAWNEY — What is Autism? That is the question that runs through the minds of many individuals.

And the answer is: autism and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are terms for a complex neurological disorder that is characterized by communication difficulties, social impairment and repetitive behaviors.

Children who are autistic may have difficulties with motor coordination or attention span, have trouble sleeping and potty training and have intellectual disabilities.

DAR honors winners of Good Citizenship, history essay awards

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently named a pair of essay winners — PAHS senior Alexa Shaffer for the DAR Good Citizen Award and SS.C.D. School seventh-grader Kaitlin Nicole Doverspike for the DAR American History Essay Contest.

According to the letter read at the presentation, Shaffer's involvement in a number of community extends from school to church to community and made her an excellent choice for a "Good Citizen."

Sara Marie Shields Rhodes Webb, 91

Sara Marie Shields Rhodes Webb, 91, changed her address to Heaven on March 30, 2013, while visiting in Ohio.

Sara was born on a farm in Mahaffey, the daughter of Myrl and Jane Shields. Her home for the past 52 years has been New Jersey.

Sara worked as a waitress many years while raising her four children.

She loved her God, her family and her garden. She attended the Rockaway Reformed Church.

Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Webb; a son, Harry Rhodes of Maryland; and a daughter, Nancy Rhodes Diethorne of Pennsylvania.

Mary F. Wright, 100

March 29, 2013

Mary F. Wright, 100, of Knox Dale, died Friday, March 29, 2013, at her home.

Born Dec. 28, 1912, in Indiana County, a daughter of the late Norman and Sarah Ann (Little) Ashbaugh.

She was the first born of 10 children, and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

On Dec. 31, 1929, she married William G. Wright. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1993.

She attended Center Hill Presbyterian Community Church in Knox Dale.
Mrs. Wright and her husband operated two rest homes in the Punxsutawney and Marchand area many years ago.

Muriel C. “Connie” Salvadori, 80

March 29, 2013

Muriel C. “Connie” Salvadori, 80, of Seminole, died on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois. She was born on Oct. 23, 1932, in St. Charles and was the daughter of Jerry M. and Rosetta (Crisswell) Bailey.

On June 25, 1955 she married Vincent J. “Jeep” Salvadori, who preceded her in death on June 2, 2009.

Connie was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in New Bethlehem.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
