Familiar Faces Friday! Mike Horner

(Editor’s note: This is the first in a series of “Familiar Faces Friday” features to be written by Spirit reporter Destiny Pifer. The point of the project will be to highlight a member of the community who may be recognizable to many and tell his or her story. Today’s familiar face is Mike Horner.)

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Mike Horner is a recognizable face
around town.

You may recognize him from The Medicine Shoppe, where he greets everyone who comes through the door with a smile.

It was a polka party in the park!

Polka was the word Thursday night in Barclay Square as the latest installment of Music in the Park featured polka band Mikey D.

Members of the crowd were treated to the festive music in yet another good turnout, as the rain clouds stayed away.

No injuries in Route 310 rollover

The driver of this Jeep Wrangler, pictured here, lost control of her vehicle at 2:29 a.m. Thursday morning on Route 310 in Young Township while traveling north, which caused it to slide, impact a guardrail and a utility pole and roll onto its side down a steep embankment.

The driver was not injured in the crash and was able to get out of the Jeep and walk to her residence.

She later returned to the scene of the accident.

Filmmaker with local ties working toward second film as part of ‘Radio Silence’

LOS ANGELES — We all have dreams, and for some, those dreams become a reality.

For one Punxsy native, his dream was to one day make films.

And with hard work and determination, he has successfully achieved that goal.

In 2012, Chad Villella and his production team, Radio Silence, got the chance to premiere their horror anthology film, “V/H/S,” at the Sundance Film Festival.

The team was quite surprised when it became a fan favorite and the first horror film ever to be purchased by a film distributor.

Polly J. Farbo, 46

August 1, 2013

Polly J. Farbo, 46, Punxsutawney, died surrounded by her family and friends after a lengthy battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 31, 2013.

She was born on April 2, 1967, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of Harry E. and Shirley O. (Shumaker) Caylor.

On Sept. 22, 1990, she married Douglas A. Farbo, who survives.

She was a member of the First Church of God of Punxsutawney.

She was a graduate of the Punxsutawney Area High School Class of 1985.

She worked as an insurance agent for the Shields Insurance Agency in Punxsutawney.
