Local politicians featured as speakers as Traveling Tribute visits Jefferson County

PINE CREEK TOWNSHIP — After an extensive fundraising and planning process, the American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) — a scale model of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C., that features exhibits from other wars and important historical events — finally visited Jefferson County, parking at the fairgrounds from Wednesday through Sunday.

Congratulations to Lynda Brown for earning August Garden of the Month honors

It was a beautiful and sunny afternoon as the Punxsutawney Garden Club's August Garden of the Month recipient Lynda Brown posed with her dog, Chance, in one of her beautiful flower gardens.

Brown's garden consists of a variety of flowers, including the unique Chinese lanterns.

With a green thumb, she has planted not only flowers, but also some hot peppers which she loves to can.

Seeking and saving: Track and Trail search team offers training to Punxsy firefighters

Track & Trail Search and Rescue Inc. in Brookville is a volunteer search team with a main purpose of looking for lost or missing people.

The team recently performed a demonstration for members of the Punxsutawney Fire Department.

Mary Christine Curtis Carnazzo, 76

Mary Christine Curtis Carnazzo, 76, entered into eternal peace at Castle Memorial Hospital, Kailua, Hawaii, seven days shy of her 77th birthday.

Mary was born Aug. 15, 1936, on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin.

Mary graduated from Ss. Cosmas and Damian in 1954 and remained a faithful supporter of SS.C.D. throughout the rest of her life.

After graduating from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh in 1957, she moved to California, with five of her nursing school buddies, and worked at Los Angeles County Hospital.

Traffic Update: Bridge open in Helvetia

HELVETIA — PennDOT has announced that a bridge on Route 2003 (Mine Road) near Helvetia in Clearfield County has opened.

The bridge was closed July 26 to allow for crews to replace the structure with a new box culvert.

The bridge, which spans Stump Creek on Route 4003, near the village of Stanley in Brady Township, carries an average of nearly 200 vehicles each day.

Also, motorists traveling along Route 219 (First Street) in Grampian Borough, Clearfield County, are reminded to obey the posted speed limit of 35 mph.

Help needed to take down canopy in Barclay Square

Anyone wishing to help take down the canopy in Barclay Square can report to the park at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
