Punxsy's 9- and 10-year-old softball All-Stars opened their state tournament on Wednesday evening against West Point. Punxsy fell to the formidable West Point by a final score of 4-0. Brianna Hoover (pictured above) and Kendal Johnston had hits for Punxsy, and Johnston also pitched a solid game, allowing just three hits and striking out eight. "I'm proud of the girls," said Punxsy coach Brad Gigliotti. "West Point is traditionally one of the tougher programs in the state.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” It will be a big weekend in Barclay Square and at Harmon Field, as many of the Punxsutawney churches are once again joining to celebrate Church in the Park Friday through Sunday.
Peggy McQuown, Church In the Park publicity director, said activities will be held at both locations throughout the weekend and will include activities such as a family movie, FamilyFest and a church service. She said the Movie in the Park will jump start the weekend events on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
Michael A. "Mike" Larko, 98, of Penn Hills, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Ligonier Gardens.
Mike was the beloved husband of the late Margaret J. Larko; the father of John Larko, of Leechburg, Pa., Michael J. (Marsha) Larko, of Plum, Pa., Rev. Ronald Larko, of Uniontown, Pa., Thomas (Karen) Larko, of Punxsutawney, Anna (John) Maier, of New Florence, Pa., Patricia (Ed) Morris, of Turtle Creek, Pa., and the late Robert G. Larko; the grandfather of 16; and the great-grandfather of 11. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
