Punxsy 11- and 12-year-old All-Star Kate Horner (pictured above during a game last week) hit a go-ahead inside-the-park home run in the second inning of Punxsyâ€™s game against West Point on Wednesday to help lead the Punxsy squad to a 4-0 victory in the opening round of the Little League Softball State Tournament. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is gearing up for the ninth
annual event to be held in Punxsutawney, with this yearâ€™s theme being
â€śWizard of Oz: Follow the Yellow Brick Road to a Cure! There is no place
Connor James Gummo, infant, was born on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, and just a few short hours later, was placed back in the arms of Jesus.
He is the son of Tyler and Brianna Nichole (Henry) Gummo of DeLancey.
He is the paternal grandson of Mark and Kim (Poorman) Culberson, of Punxsutawney, and maternal grandson of David Henry of DeLancey.
Connor was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Linda Lee Craft.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at St. Phillips United Methodist Church in Big Run, officiated by Pastor Dawn Krishart.
Louise Bloom, 76, of Curwensville, passed away Monday July 8, 2013, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 19, 1937, in New Millport, she was the daughter of Russell Rea and Mamie (Bloom) Bloom. Miss Bloom was a music teacher, having taught in the Punxsutawney Area School District, retiring after 35 years of service. She received her bachelorâ€™s degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
She was a member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church and was affiliated with the Oak Ridge Union Church in Carnwath.
