PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Over the past two days, Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police have charged three individuals, including two local men, with delivery of heroin after search warrant and arrest warrants were
served in two separate incidents â€” one at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday and another at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
The First Church of God on Route 36 in Punxsutawney will hold a blood drive on Friday in honor of Martha Hoover (pictured), who has been the coordinator of the drive since it began at the church.
After many years of volunteer work, Martha has decided to retire and spend time with her family and friends.
Area residents are invited to come to the church on Friday between noon and 6 p.m. to donate blood in Marthaâ€™s honor.
BROOKVILLE â€” With reports all day Tuesday saying that voters' numbers were low across the state for the primary election, 5,120 Jefferson County residents headed to the polls to vote, with 3,421 Repub-lican ballots being cast and 1,699 Democratic ballots being submitted, according to the unofficial results released by the county Tuesday evening.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Monday morning, The Spirit named Nancy Lazorchak the Punxsutawney Area Middle School Teacher of the Year, while Ryan Hayden was honored at the high school.
The awards are based on ballots cast by Spirit readers.

Velma Olovett Bowser, 95, of Big Run, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at home with her loving family.
Velma was born on June 18, 1917, in Ernest, a daughter of the late Alfred and Sarah (Morgan) Schierer.
On April 27, 1946, she married Glenn Clark Bowser.
She made her own wedding gown from a parachute from World War II. Her husband preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1963.
Velma was a member of the Big Run Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Bowser was the Big Run 2011 Citizen of Year.
Glenna L. (Keefer) Smith, 76, of McKean, Pa., and formerly of Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013, at St. Maryâ€™s Home at Asbury Ridge.
She was born May 27, 1936, in Clarion, a daughter of the late R. Kenneth and Alice (Steffy) Keefer.
Glenna was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking, crossword puzzles and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donald R. Smith.
A search warrant was served last night on West Mahoning Street in Punxsutawney. Heroin, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and cash were seized.

Tuesday, May 21, is Election Day.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
INDIANA â€” PennDOT has announced that the Warsaw Bridge on Route 28 in Warsaw Township will be replaced, with work to start today.
Lane restrictions using temporary traffic signals will be in place on Route 28, between Route 473 (Carberry Road) South and Route 473 (Carberry Road) North.
These restrictions will be in place until mid-September.
PennDOT reminds motorists to be alert to changing conditions and to pay attention to flaggers in the work zone.
The project is expected to be completed in May 2014.
