PAHS athletes excel at D-IX Championships Thursday

BROOKVILLE — First-place finishers for the Chucks and Lady Chucks at the District IX Championships included:

• Juliann Boddorf, girls' 400-meter dash;

• Alexis Minich, girls' shot put and girls' discus;

• Perry Arrington, boys' pole vault;

• Thomas Renwick, boys' long jump;

• Jordan London, boys' discus.

Various local crews assist with battling Paradise Rd. structure fire

Several local fire companies responded to and provided backup at a late-afternoon structure fire on Paradise Road in Henderson Township on Thursday.

Members of Station 17 in Big Run are pictured here dousing the hot spot on the house.

Personnel remained on scene late into the evening.

Ruth L. Parise, 91

Ruth L. Parise, 91, of Punxsutawney, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Parise was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Homer City, a daughter of the late Lester Love and Edna (Dickey) Love.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Parise, Sr.

They were married July 12, 1947.

Mrs. Parise was a member of the First Church of God, where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Women of the Church of God, choir member and Missionary Officer for many years.

PennDOT issues update for work at intersetion of routes 119 & 322 in Sandy Township

DUBOIS — Work to improve the Route 119/322 "Blinker Parkway" intersection in Sandy Township is continuing with an update. When work completes late this year, area drivers will be able to travel through a wider intersection with improved visibility and enhanced safety.

For the time being, drivers can expect:

• Roadway widening, excavation and drainage work to continue;

• Temporary signals are operational and old signals have been removed;

• Utility relocation work will continue.
