Police: $1,800 worth of fish to be donated to children’s derby stolen

CHEST TOWNSHIP — Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State police reported that 60 large trout — many of which were to be donated to a children’s fishing derby — were stolen between May 4 and May 5 from the Susquehanna Valley Rod & Gun Club, at a fish hatchery on Holes Road in Clearfield County.

Police said the total loss is estimated at $1,800.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 938-0510.

Fundraiser to benefit troops turns out a success

Following a successful fundraiser event, Sherry Huber (left), shift manager at Punxsy McDonald’s, and Karen Love, Punxsy McDonald’s general manager, pack up donations of food and personal care items to send to troops stationed overseas.

HELPING OUT THE VFW

A drawing for the winners of two freezers full of meat was held Wednesday at Lowmaster and Warden in Punxsutawney.

The winners are: Paul Lieberum of St. Petersburg, Pa., and Richard Grecco of Brockway (not pictured).

The proceeds benefit VFW No. 2076 in Punxsutawney.

Not Guilty
In the case of the commonwealth vs Oliver P. Nicola, at Clearfield last week the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. Mr. Nicola had been charged with removing lumber from Sykes Bros. mill at Newtonburg, illegally.
