PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” A solid all-around softball team is always a challenge, but even more so when a team has limited outside and game time before the matchup.
Despite being on its way to being a good softball club, Punxsy could not match the quality Williamsport squad on Saturday and dropped a close game for the majority of the day, 10-1.
â€śThat was a good quality team over there. They have offense with the pitching to go with it,â€ť noted Lady Chucks coach Alan Pifer. â€śI told the girls from the start they had to share the hitting load."
SYKESVILLE â€” One of Jefferson County's first weekends of sunny and temperate spring weather arrived just in time for the 34th Annual Run/Walk for Someone Special event in Sykesville, which raises money each year for The Arc of Clearfield and Jefferson Counties' Camp Friendship program.
This yearâ€™s total was $63,400, including money from a Saturday night Zumbathon and Sunday food sales, raffles, donations and sponser money turned in.

A Day in School
Instead of two hundred there should have been five hundred visitors to the public schools last Friday.
Angelo R. Strano, Jr., 93, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Mulberry Square.
He was born Sept. 18, 1919, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Angelo Strano, Sr., and Josephine (Polito) Strano.
On Aug. 7, 1943, he married Sophia (Moskowski) Strano, who survives.
He passed away on her 90th birthday.
He was a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church of Punxsutawney.
He was a member of the Walston Club, Eagles, Elks, VFW and the American Legion.
