INDIANA — Susan Kelly is a woman who knows that the worst kind of grief comes from losing a child. Even worse, perhaps, is losing that child to drugs.
That is exactly what happened to Kelly, when her beloved son, Daniel "Hat" Cernic, died at the age of 23 from a heroin overdose in 2005.
To this very day, Kelly grieves for the child she lost to something that has taken so many young lives.
Kelly, a mental health therapist and self-employed mental health consultant, worked for 22 years at the Indiana Guidance Center.
With plenty of other construction already underway in town, another project started Monday morning, as crews started to take down the former Rumors building on W. Mahoning Street.
Fortunately for locals, the new building (seen in background) opened a few months back.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Despite the fact that there won't be a carnival this year for the Punxsutawney Fire Department's Old Home Week, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Festival Committee and Tim Krise are pitching in to help.
Scott Depp, chief of Central Fire Department and a member of the Old Home Week Committee, said two days will be added to the schedule to help out the fire department, since the committee was unable to obtain a carnival service to replace J&J Amusements' services.
