Lady Chucks cruise past Lady Raiders for third shutout in a week

April 22, 2013

BROOKVILLE — A tuneup game before facing your toughest district foe is always good.

The Punxsy softball team used its Route 36 rivalry game with Brookville as preparation for Wednesday’s showdown with St. Marys by cruising to a 14-0 five-inning run-rule victory in Brookville.

“It was nice to see some girls in different positions. A lot of the girls put the bat on the ball today,” noted Punxsy head coach Alan Pifer. “We have St. Marys on Wednesday, which is a big rival and a big game for us. We will have to play well as they are one of the toughest games on our schedule.”

Cardinals slide past Chucks boys' tennis, 5-4

April 22, 2013

PUNXSUTAWNEY — An inexperienced team goes through growing pains, which is what the Punxsy boys' tennis spring season has been.

The young Chucks fell just shy of capturing their first victory on Monday afternoon.

DuBois Central Catholic prevailed in one more match, 5-4, to edge Punxsy.

"It was nice to get some more match wins tonight than we have been. The team played well and should be proud of their efforts," pointed out Chucks coach Lisa Good.

In the top singles slot, Joe Roberts came out on fire against the Cardinals' Ben Trinkley. Roberts blazed to a 6-1 first set win.

Chucks' early hitting frenzy seals a 14-7 victory over rival Raiders

April 22, 2013

BROOKVILLE — The Chucks' early hitting frenzy built a large enough lead to hold off the surging Raiders in a 14-7 win Monday at McKinley Field in Brook-ville.

"We hit the ball really well today early on. Our approaches late weren't as aggressive as I'd like them to be; I think that's why we cooled down a little bit. A lot of the credit goes to the guys swinging the bats early and getting us a big lead," said Mike Dickey, Chucks coach.
