BROOKVILLE â The Jefferson County commissioners proclaimed that the month of March 2013 is Dog License Awareness Month in the county at their meeting on Tuesday.
The proclamation came with a handful of special guests â Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture George D. Greig, State Dog Warden Jamie Carlson and President of PADogLicense.com Jason Abla, introduced to the commission by County Treasurer James "Moon" VanSteenberg.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â It's Rotary Auction time in Punxsutawney, and once again, the public will have the chance to bid on a large variety of items beginning at 9:05 a.m. Saturday live on WPXZ 104.1 FM from BFG Manufacturing Services in the Punxsutawney Industrial Park.
"The auction has been a tradition in excess of 40 years and was the original idea of a great Punxsutawney Rotatrian, Charlie Ehrhardt, who owned WPME (WPXZ) Radio at the time and came up with a fun day of raising money for the community," said Tom Chelgren of the Punxsutawney Rotary Club.
PITTSBURGH â When youâre good, youâre good, such is the case with Scott Anthony, owner of Foxâs Pizza Den in Punxsutawney, was awarded the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Associationâs (PR&LA) Good Neighbor Award last Sunday at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel.
2013 has been a busy year for Anthony. First, he was named 2012 Man of the Year at the Groundhog Banquet on Feb. 1; then the National Restaurant Association appointed him to the Pizza Industry Council; and now he was the recipient of the Restaurant Neighbor Award from the PR&LA.
Katie A. Fisher, 79, of Luthersburg, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at home.
Mrs. Fisher was born April 25, 1933, in Apple Creek, Ohio, a daughter of the late Atlee and Susie (Wengerd) Byler.
She was married to Eli W. Fisher, who preceded her in death.
