PUNXSUTAWNEY â Punxsutawney Borough Council did its bit to support recycling in the borough by approving the site sponsor agreement with the Jefferson County Solid Waste Authority at Monday's meeting.
Donna Cooper, Solid Waste/Recycling coordinator, said in a letter addressed to Punxsutawney Borough Council that, "she appreciated the continued partnership between the Borough and the authority in providing this beneficial public service program to borough residents, as well as throughout the county."
Goldie (Ryen) Pardee, 94, of Rochester Mills, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of Allen I. and Amanda M. (Potts) Ryen, she was born on Nov. 26, 1918, in Rochester Mills.
During World War II, Goldie worked at Aircraft in Ohio in what she described as a âRosie the Riveterâ job.
She was a member of the Rochester Mills United Methodist Church.
Goldie was a member of the former Rebekah Lodge and the former Homemakers Club, both organizations having been located in Rochester Mills.
Anthony R. Lorelli, 92, Anita, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Brookville Hospital.
He was born Aug. 16, 1920, in Anita, a son of the late John and Raphael (Renne) Lorelli.
On Sept. 27, 1941, he married Rose (Morell) Lorelli, who preceded him in death.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Anita.
He worked at the Jefferson Garage from 1937 to 1956 and then became the owner of Lorelli Auto Body in Anita, where he did mechanic work and auto body repair and also sold used cars.
Robert J. Krucelyak, 73, of Woodbridge, Va. and Anita, Pa. passed away on Jan. 2, 2013, at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, Woodbridge, Va., followed by interment at Fairfax Memorial Park, Fairfax, Va.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ann and Steve; a sister, Dorothy; infant twin brother Billy; and son Christopher.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â District Judge Douglas Chambers has reported that a suspect has been arrested in the break-in at Ragley's True Value Hardware early Saturday morning.
Ryan P. Gerber, 18, of Sycamore Street in Punxsutawney, has been arrested on charges of burglary, theft and receiving stolen property in relation to incidents at both Ragley's and his mother's residence.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â Punxsutawney Borough Council approved the hiring of a part-time Punxsutawney Borough Police Officer to full-time at Monday's Borough Council meeting.
Punxsutawney Borough Police Chief Tom Fedigan presented the Civil Service Vacancy eligibility list to council.
"I respectfully ask that council vote to approve an additional full-time officer to the department," Fedigan said.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Who was your mentor growing up, and what did you learn from that mentor?
Those were the questions asked at the Big Brothers Big Sisters event held Monday night at the Punxsutawney Country Club.
With January being National Mentor Month, the program was aimed at raising awareness by joining together members of the community, as well as Big Brothers, Big Sisters, "Littles" and children on the waiting list.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters program is designed for kids five and older who reside in either Jefferson, Elk or McKean counties.
CLARION COUNTY â Clarion-based Pennsylvania State Police have reported that a 19-year-old woman reported missing over the weekend was found deceased inside her vehicle Tuesday morning at 7 a.m.
PSP report that the victim, Devan C. Knapp of Brookville, was discovered in the vehicle along Summerville Drive in Millcreek Township, Clarion County, by a passerby. Members of PSP-Clarion and PSP-Punxsy reported to the scene.
This Suburu driven by Curt Mertz of Punxsutawney was heading south on Elk Run Avenue when he entered the intersection of Graffius Avenue on a red light, according to Punxsutawney Borough Police.
A Nissan pickup truck driven by Larry Depp of Punxsutawney was traveling east on Graffius Avenue and entered the intersection legally on a green light, striking the right rear quarter panel of Mertz's vehicle.
There were no injuries, and police were assisted at the scene by Jefferson County EMS and the Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company.
BROOKVILLE â Nearly two years after its debut, swackett, the popular weather app produced by the Brookville-based company AGLogic, has been made available to Android users.
"If you google 'swackett,' the first word that comes up in the auto-suggest is 'swackett Android,' which means a lot of people were looking for it," said C. Scott Gilbert, the founder and director of AGLogic.
