Crews respond to late-night fire on Cloe-Rossiter Road

Members of the Punxsutawney Fire Department responded to a scanner call for a working structure fire along Cloe-Rossiter Road shortly before 9 p.m. on Thursday night.

No flames were showing when crews first arrived.

No further details were available at Spirit press time.

Day 4 of Light Up a Child’s Life Campaign ‘sings’ through high school, middle school

Make-a-Wish continued the Light Up A Child's Life Campaign with two stops Thursday morning — the first at the Punxsutawney Area Middle School and the second at the high school.

The radio-thon's broadcast on 104.1 WPXZ was held at the high school from 8 to 9 a.m., with check presentations from the Future Health Services Club, Student Government, faculty and staff members, Juart Brothers Excavating on behalf of the Key Club, band parents and students.

Familiar Faces Friday! Cheri Rowles

BELL TOWNSHIP — Cheri Rowles is a familiar face. You may recognize her as the secretary/treasurer of Bell Township

borough. Or perhaps, you have seen her throughout the community.

Born and raised in Beaver Falls, Pa., Rowles is a graduate of Beaver Falls High School.

PAHGS Christmas exhibits on display

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It is the season of giving and of helping others. As we look back on the history of our town, we are reminded not only of those who helped our community, but also of those who fought for our country.

This holiday season, the Punxsutawney Area Historical & Genealogical Society is providing an exhibit that showcases both military service and public service.

The exhibit will run until after Groundhog Day 2014.

Hours of operation are Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Friday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.

Donald Charles Scott, 79

Donald Charles Scott, 79, of Whitehall, (formerly of Rossiter), died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Charles and Hazel (Frampton) Scott.

In 1954, he married the former Mary Lea Rishell. She preceded him in death in 1986.

He later married Jennifer Bubula. She preceded him in death in 2007.

He previously worked as a logger and a heavy equipment mechanic, and he worked PACT Construction in Ringoes, N.J.

His favorite pastime was drinking and being with his friends at the clubs.

Jacquelyn (Zeedick) Walker, 55

Jacquelyn Walker, 55, of Anita, died on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on April 6, 1958, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of John "Jack" Zeedick of Punxsutawney and Betty Jean (Schutz) Turley of Walla Walla, Wash.

She was married to David E. Walker, who survives.

She was a special needs bus aide/warehouse person/cafeteria aide/traffic director for the Punxsutawney Area School District.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at their camp along the Kinzua Dam in New York.
