REELING IN DONATIONS FOR PACC

Students from the IUP Culinary School were out collecting donations last Saturday to help the Punxsutawney Area Community Center (PACC) raise money to purchase a digital projector to replace the old 35mm projector.

Pictured is Rob McCoy (center), PACC director, accepting a donation in the amount of $1,300 that was raised by students during Tag Days.

McCoy said that so far, $30,000 has been raised by various groups.

The cost of a digital projector is approximately $70,000, and the board of directors is hoping to purchase one before the end of spring.

A destructive forest fire is raging in the large timber tract north of Brookville, known as the Mayes tract. There are several thousand acres of excellent pine and hemlock on it, and the loss will be enormous.

Arnold L. Dunmire, 82

November 3, 2013

Arnold L. Dunmire, 82, of Young Township, died on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Dunmire was born on April 7, 1931, at home, in Rossiter, Indiana County, the second of four sons of Carlton C. Dunmire and Laura A. (Roush) Dunmire.

He spent most of his childhood and youth on the family farm in Banks Township, Indiana County.

Working together: Nomadic Trading Company’s warehouse lends to vendor-styled selling

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It may just be the new best-kept secret in Punxsutawney, and it's located on the second floor of the old Thermal-Gard warehouse, at 400 North Walnut St. in Punxsutawney.

That secret is The Nomadic Trading Company — The Warehouse, which, up until now, has advertised mainly on Facebook.

The Nomadic Trading Company — The Warehouse was started by Andy and Katrina Horner, who were looking for a place to sell their antiques.

Students gather at PAMS for Red Ribbon Round-up

Art Club members from grades 8 through 12 gathered at the Punxsutawney Area Middle School on Wednesday evening for Red Ribbon Round-Up.

The event, held in recognition of Red Ribbon Week, showed students that there are alternatives to turning toward drugs and alcohol.

Pictured are some members of the Art Club in grades 9-12, who came together to showcase their talents and to do some neat crafts.

Ina Jean Getty, 92

November 1, 2013

Ina Jean Getty, 92, of Marion Center, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Getty was born Aug. 27, 1921, in Marion Center, the daughter of the late Cora (Rodgers) Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband John "Jack" Getty.

Mrs. Getty was a life member of the Presbyterian Church of Marion.

Her hobbies were quilting, gardening and flowers.

Chadwick Aaron Heckman, 41

November 1, 2013

Chadwick Aaron Heckman, 41, of Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013.

He was born Jan. 8, 1972, in DuBois.

On July 1, 1995, he married Crystal Lynn Brestovich. She survives.

Mr. Heckman worked as a meter tech at TW Phillips for more than 10
years.

Chad was a beloved husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his kids.

He enjoyed restoring classic "muscle" cars, playing poker and pulling pranks.

He had a great sense of humor and liked to make everyone laugh.
