Hampton Avenue wreck injures two

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Clark Street and Hampton Avenue on Sunday.

Barnyard Buddies 4-H decorates tree for food pantry; votes due by Dec. 10

Jefferson County’s Barnyard Buddies 4-H launched a community service project in October to raise money for the local food pantries in Jefferson County.

The response from the community has been great, and the club thanks all who have donated thus far.

The club has now expanded its drive to nearby DuBois.

Members were invited to decorate a Christmas tree in the DuBois Mall.

During their October meeting, the members made decorations for the tree.

Voting for the best tree is by donation to the food pantry.

Here comes Santa Claus! Home for the Holidays Parade coming to town Nov. 30

Here comes the jolly old elf Santa Claus, who is pictured in a past Home for the Holidays Parade.

This year's annual parade is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 30. It will begin at the Punxy Plaza and march to Barclay Square.

The registration deadline for those who’d like to have a float in the parade is Monday.

Call the chamber at 938-7700 to register.

Garbage, sewage, resignation among issues discussed at Young Township meeting

Following numerous incidents of people dumping garbage at the Young Township Recycling bins located behind the township building on the Walston Road, a sign indicating a $300 littering fine has been put in place.

Mary Ann Redding, township secretary-treasurer, reminded everyone who uses the site that there's a surveillance camera in use 24/7.

PASR PRESENTS AWARDS, CONDUCTS MEMORIAL SERVICE

During the fall meeting of the Jefferson County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR), Barbara Fortunato (left) and Diane Genevro (right) were the recipients of the 2013 Lauretta Woodson Award for their outstanding service to the students and residents of the Brockway Area School District.

Betty Elza, Education Support Committee chairwoman (center), presented the awards on behalf of the chapter.

Ivan Robert Kunselman, 83

November 15, 2013

Ivan Robert Kunselman, 83, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at home.

He was born May 11, 1930, at the Kunselman Farm in Porter Township, a son of the late Murtten Byron and Martha (Yarger) Kunselman.

He is survived by his wife, the former Gladys Marie Reed, who he married on Oct. 2, 1950.

Ken Thom benefit dinner is Saturday

There will be a benefit lasagna dinner for Ken Thom this Saturday, Nov. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Grange Church of God.

Back in June, Ken had a heart valve replacement. The surgery went well, and he was able to go home to Ridgway.

July 11, Ken ended up back in the ICU in Pittsburgh after contracting pneumonia. He was in a medically induced coma for more than a few months.

Sept. 17, Ken was flown to the Cleveland Clinic.

On Sept. 28, he was alert and able to watch television.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce named the 2013 Business of the Year at Thursday's annual luncheon.

SS.C.D. Students dress down for projector project

The students at SS.C.D. School celebrated a night out at the movies last week at the Jackson Theater.

The entire school participated in dress-down days, during which students paid a dollar each to dress
down.

There were four different themes for dress-down days, and money raised was donated to the Jackson Theater for the projector fund.

A total of $224 was raised and presented to Rob McCoy, Punxsutawney Area Community Center director. For their generosity, the students were treated to a movie called “The Croods.”
