Arm Broken and Leg Dislocated
Mrs. Elizabeth Chambers, of this place, went to an inclosure last Sunday evening to untie her cow, which was tethered by a long rope.

As she did so the cow started to run and her feet became entangled in the rope, throwing her violently to the ground.

Chucks weather the storm with crucial 28-12 win over C-L

STRATTANVILLE — Football and bad weather go together like peanut butter and jelly. Fortunately for the Punxsy Chucks, they have been able to avoid any poor weather so far this season. When Punxsy traveled to Clarion-Limestone Friday night, it experienced a 30-minute weather delay due to lightning. For the C-L Lions, it would just be the calm before the storm, as the Chucks ran their way to a 28-12 win to improve their record to 3-3 on the season.

A bird’s eye view: Airport Awareness Day flies by Sunday

BELL TOWNSHIP — Look up in the sky! It’s a bird! It's a plane! Actually, it is a plane, as Punxsutawney Airport Awareness Day is back this Sunday.
Larry Straitiff, flight instructor for Centerline Aviation, said it's time for the annual event, which offers airplane rides on Sunday to check out the fall foliage.

Herbert R. McIntire, 84

October 4, 2013

Herbert R. McIntire, 84, of Kittanning (Wayne Twp.), passed away on Oct. 4, 2013, at the ACMH Hospital.

He was born on June 23, 1929, in Echo, Pa., to Clyde and Gladys (Farester) McIntire.

Herbert worked as a track foreman for the railroad.

He was a life member of the Woodmen of the World and enjoyed farming.
Herbert is survived by a son, Jerry McIntire of Kittanning; a daughter, Karen (James) Titus of Kittanning; a brother, Robert McIntire of Kittanning; a sister, Donna Kline of Dayton, Pa.; and granddaughters Katie Titus and Laura McIntire.

The Rev. Msgr. George J. Adams, 88

October 4, 2013

The Rev. Msgr. George J. Adams, 88, of Broad Street Brockway, died Oct. 2, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Born on Aug. 13, 1925, in Toronto, Ohio, he was the son of the late George J. and Anna Karaffa Adams.

Pizza & Prevention to be held Saturday

Fox's Pizza Den in Punxsutawney will hold its annual Pizza and Prevention fundraiser on Saturday to benefit the Punxsutawney Fire Department.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Jane Spencer is a recognizable face around town. You may recognize her as the manager of Sycamore Apartments, or perhaps, you have seen her throughout the community.

Rose Cook named Senior Corps-RSVP’s Volunteer of the Year

Wednesday afternoon, Senior Corps-RSVP named Rose Cook as its Volunteer of the Year. Rose volunteers at the Punxsy Hospital and with the Warm Hearts/Warm Hands Project, as well as Toys for Tots.

Ryan Joseph Stankewich, 26

Ryan Joseph Stankewich, 26, of Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013.

He was born Dec. 22, 1986, a son of Stacey Marie Schepis and Daryl Joseph Stankewich.

He was a 2005 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School.

He graduated from Triangle Tech in 2008.

He was employed as a Union Carpenter with Local No. 947 of Ridgway.

Ryan enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, animals, cleaning cars and playing a good game of bingo.

He was a compassionate, loving, caring soul, and he loved his family and friends deeply.

William G. “Bill” Fusco, 88

October 3, 2013

William G. “Bill” Fusco, 88, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at UPMC Altoona.

He was born May 13, 1925, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Joe and Edith (Paladino) Fusco.

On April 17, 1947, he married Phyllis J. (Hewitt) Fusco, who survives.

He was a member of the Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church of Punxsutawney.

He was employed as a salesman for the Phillip Morris Company for more than 30 years.

After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp, where he served in the Pacific during World War II, serving with the 1st Division.
